ATI Crossfire issue

Thread Starter
Basically I just got a new GPU to toy around with, a Sapphire 4860 1GB. I put it in and enabled crossfire with my current 4870 1GB and I had a few hiccups getting it going at first put now it seems to be working alright, except for one issue. In 3Dmark vantage the 4860 is working at 100% load but my 4870 won't go past 75% load. I don't know what's causing it. Also these cards in crossfire only score about 1,000 more than my GTX 280 used to score. Something seems off here but I don't know what it is. Anyone got any ideas?

if i had to guess, i would say the 4870 is down clocking to the 4860's speed.

for one... unless you disabled physx when you ran 3dmark vantage...of course your 280 is going to seem a higher score... the physx is added to the overall score...and ati cards do not have that ability...

now for you 4860...overall a 4860 is a crippled 4890...here is a review of it here...

http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-99...-Platinum.html

so since it is lower than a 4870 in terms of performance...the 4860 needs to due 100% load for same amount a 4870 does at 75%...

When I run vantage I don't run the CPU tests, only GPU so physx isn't an issue. GPU score for GPU score my scores with a 280 was 11,974 and my score with my crossfire setup is 12,988. That just seems way off to me.

Physx is still a GPU function as opposed to a CPU function afaik.
Try just one of the AMD cards and see what score you get.
Also, I know that some Futuremark benches have crossfire profiles. Make sure you have Dl's the latest profile pack from the AMD site.

You're right it is a GPU feature but it isn't a part of the gpu tests. It is either a feature test or CPU test. So he's right in wondering why the GPU only score would be so close.
