Problem installing Ubuntu 10.10

Thread Starter
My old rig died last year in August. Since then I've had the GPU replaced twice by EVGA (9800GX2), the motherboard has been repaired by Asus (P5K SE EPU), I received a brand new PSU from Corsair (TX750), and I have swapped my RAM in and out of different slots.

Basically, here's what happens:

1. Boot from 10.10 Desktop disc
2. Choose install
3. Screen goes black for a while
4. Picture comes back but its all blocky for a few seconds
5. Purple Ubuntu BG comes up, mouse cursor comes up

That's it. There is a black bar on the top of the screen with three icons on the right, none of which are clickable. Nothing else happens. I've left it sitting at this point for 20 minutes before.

This same thing happens with 10.10 Alternative and 10.04 Desktop. I've tried messing with different options when installing.

My only conclusion is that my CPU was messed up when my other parts died. I still have 3 months on my warranty and will send it in if no one has any other suggestions.

Has anyone encountered anything similar?

i had problems with 10.10 as well, i just installed 10.04 and all problems were gone,
maybe you could install 10.04 and then upgrade to 10.10?

When you boot from the CD, boot into LiveCD mode. Don't click the "Install" option. Click the "boot into live mode" or whatever it says. Then install from inside the LiveCD.

I didn't know I could install while booting from the LiveCD. I will give that a shot here in a few minutes.

Thanks

Would try, maybe you have an error in your iso when downloading that is causing the crash.

I had problems with Momomga distro when it was installing.

I was able to install from LiveCD, but right now the screen is black/white blocks. This is after the reboot. Gonna let it sit and see what happens I guess.

Did you do a checksum on the ISO to see if it was complete?
Sometimes when you download ISO's, it's sometimes not perfect.

I did about 2 months ago on this same disc/iso.

Interesting.... Hmm.
And it worked then? Or?

The ISO was good. The PC is still sitting at black/white blocks.

This is so damn frustrating! lol

The thing is, Windows 7 will install fine.
