I have my ATCS 840 (which I got for realllly cheap) and don't know if I'll ever use it - it's so massive that it cramps my "space style".

On subject: Maybe the OP will gain better temps if he also turned off the side panel fan.

One has to experiment to see as each setup varies.

It's probably better to disconnect the 200mm fan closest to the 5.25" bays to get more positive front to back airflow.

I guess I'll just go ahead and do this...hopefully I can return the fan to frys no problem...

I would test it out again without that fan on, then test it out with that fan AND the side panel fan not plugged in.

Also you can try the 200mm fan plugged in without the side panel fan plugged in.

Many times the side panel fan disrupts the airflow in the case - it varies from system to system.

You might try turning the 140's and the CPU to exhaust out the front or turn the side panel to exhaust. I think the extra heat is coming from the GPU touch the top of it and see how hot it gets.

i don't think he even read my first post, since he suggested adding exhaust fans up top....heck, i don't think he even has a haf x case...so you already know where the "heat rises" part comes from...

Good input.

Also, fan speed could have something to do with it. I'm waiting on some fans to arrive to experiment with my haf x but a very knowledgeable friend made this example:

If you run your finger quickly through a flame, it doesn't burn. If you move slowly it does. If the air is moving/exhausting too fast it is not going to displace as much heat.

Ignoring the positive/negative pressure debate his opinion is you want cold air rushing in and hot air slowly moving out. This allows the air to displace the maximum amount of heat possible.

In my research I've seen multiple people state that the second top exhaust pulls airflow away from the motherboard.



edit: I say his opinion as I cannot provide more information and have not tested this, but he has never steered me wrong.

btw I took a look again at my top 200mm fans...it looks like they have dust filters, but why? The top fans should be exhausted....I can understand if ANY fan is an intake, filters will be beneficial. But I was wondering maybe these top filters are suffocating my 200m fans?
