Haf X owners, colder temps when adding 2nd 200mm fan on top? - Page 6

That explains it. You had restriction on the outgoing air so it really wasnt going anywhere. Those fans apparent6ly have a low static pressure level. If they had had a higher static pressure, it would have been able to push the air through the filters a bit more efficiently.

Now that you have that restriction out of the way... you must be a happy camper now!

yeah I finally able to figure out whats going on.....don't get me wrong though, adding an optional 200mm fan didn't do much, even with my dust filters taken off. But at least now its not getting WORSE temps like before. It actually dropped a few degrees....not enough to make a worthwhile difference, but hey it looks cool with all those LEDs....LOL...here are my results, dust filters taken out on all runs

STOCK = 78C
Rear Exhaust, Front Intake = 77C
Rear Exhaust, Front Exhaust = 76C
Rear Intake, Front Intake = 76C

I find it weird that doing BOTH intakes on top, gave me pretty good temps....but I decided not to go with it because to me thats just way too much intake and way too little exhaust...I am sure in the summer time it will give me problems....with ambient temps reaching very high in southern california

Btw, I still have three xigmatek 140mm fans blowing from my 5.25 bays....they are zip tied there and I don't plan on moving them...haha

What thermal material are you using on your HSF? If it's Artic Silver 5, that take a while to set and give you optimal temperatures.

I am not familiar with Intel temps so I can't say if those are good or not. I do see ppl with low-mid 60's on water cooled rigs so maybe your temps are adequate on air. Have you looked for other users who use your same air cooler to compare with? Try looking ion the air cooled threads. I am sure there must be a Noctua user group there. Maybe someone else will jump in and let you know.

Personally, I do anything that will reduce the temp on my CPU. I am glad that you have made some progress. You were a little bummed out at the beginning of the thread here.

naw no arctic silver 5 here....i'm running noctua nt-h1....even if i ran AS5, it would have cured a long time ago....I believe this rig is well within 4 weeks old since I last bought my D14

thanks, I was really bummed at first because you would naturally think, adding more fans would help the case...especially how cooler master designed an extra mount for that specific spot....but yeah, I think their flaw is the dust filters on the top don't do jack crap. It suffocates the exhaust fans and I don't know why they put it up there.....intake, yes....exhaust, ***??

Cheers every one!

This is weird. I've tried all those set ups and got way different results! confused.gif

After messing around for ages this is the setup i have that works best for me:

Rear 140mm Fan: Exhaust
Side Fan: Exhaust

Both Top Fans: Intake
Front 230mm: Intake

Other:
-120mm CM-Sickleflow fan in the middle ODD bays pointing directly at the cpu cooler.
-120mm Silverstone Air penetrator behind that near the back pointing directly at the cooler.
-120mm Silverstone Air penetrator in the GPU fan duct.

The ambient temperature in my room is ~19-20c, my CPU temp went from ~30c to ~24c!! eek.gif
(This is after i left it on overnight downloading stuff so it had been on for at least ~10hours)

On load it went from ~53c to about ~48-49c

And my graphics card temps went down by about ~2-3c.

I also have a lot of positive pressure now. But the temps are definitely better this way for me.

EDIT: Oh! Also i removed the fan shroud for the 200mm side fan!

hey amurph, where is your haf x located?

i have mine under a desk....the top of my haf x is about 5 inches before it hits the bottom of the desk....so its not a huge amount of room for it to "breathe"...i'm not sure if this would make a difference if i had it somewhere "open"
