Second graphics card not detected? - Page 2

From Windows' Device Manager, try to manually install the driver to the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' (which should be your GTX260).

Have you tried to boot the machine with the GTX260 connected to the monitor to confirm it works in your new machine?

I can find it in display adapters.... "Unknown device" comes up in Other devices. Maybe that's it?

Well... That's the problem. I plugged my monitor into the 260 and nothing came up on the screen. I heard the fans still going full speed. I heard the Windows 7 start up sound but nothing came up. The graphics card was working fine in my old computer. Is it because my computer thinks it need to use the 580?

Well we are getting somewhere. The next thing I would do is shut your PC down, Take out the GTX 580 and use the GTX260 only in the same slot as the GTX580 was in.

;)Your PC is not intelligent enough to think that it needs the 580 to work - not a the boot screen anyway - windows might be confused but really shouldnt be!

PS - when was the last time you used the GTX260 as a main card?

OK I now have the 260 in where the 580 was. I have to install a driver at the start now everything looks good. So should I now put the GTX 580 back in?

OK - I would like to confirm a few more things so we can rule out your motherboard as the issue:

If you follow me - The primary slot (where your 580 originally was i will call slot A), the secondry slot (where your 260 was originally i will call slot B):

1. Place the GTX260 back into the Slot B and boot without the 580.
2. Remove the GTX260 from slot B and add the GTX 580 into slot B and boot.

If both are successful then there is no issue with the mobo or grpahics cards and I would install both in which ever slot you want and go for it.

If Slot B has an issue - do an RMA with your board as it is faulty.

Tom have you gone in to the BIOS and activated the second slot?
I know my UD4P requires the the BIOS option to be manual set to ether
PCI, PCIE - 1 X16, PCIe - 2 X16 look it up on page 52 of your Motherboard manual

Also you will note that your two X16 slots are not 1 & 2 but 1 & 3

Ah! I found the problem...

As I was trying to put the 260 into a PCI-e x8 slot, I saw that some of the cables coming out of the mother board had blocked the space. The 260 was only half way in the slot. So I moved it up to the other PCI-e x16 slot and put the 580 in as well. And da! da! all fixed. My computer now recognizes both cards! There is now not much space between both cards, maybe half a cm (1/4 inch). This wont be a problem?

Thanks for your help everyone.
