New laptop

Thread Starter

Hey guys

My dads laptop is on its last legs, with a screen that constantly flickers because a bad contact somewhere, and yesterday all its usb ports blew up at once, so we decided we would surprise him with a new laptop.

He only really uses it for email and browsing, nothing intense, but he is kindof techy and enjoys a snappy feeling laptop. I really want to keep this under $400

Currently I'm deciding between these two:

<- Has a multitouch touchpad

<- More ram, less HDD

I'm liking the i3's, but not sure if its worth paying extra for because I can also save around $40 by going the Intel Pentium p6100 option.

Only real requirement is that its 15.6 inch, nothing smaller because his eyesight isn't that great anymore. Also has to play videos fine, as we often hook it up to our tv. Battery life isn't an issue as its plugged in 99% of the time, nor is weight.

European shops only, any other laptops that are good deals that I might off missed?

The Asus X52F looks a bit better to me, ram beats HD in day to day. And get the i3 man.
Get non-glossy screen if you can. Also look for ones with bigger keyboards (or get a real keyboard for it). Look into Dell and lenovo. Lenovo has the great IBM keys and nub I think.

Get the ASUS. The i3's have a better GPU, so for playing vids its a better choice.
