Amd x4 635

Thread Starter
So this is the first time I have tried to overclock a cpu and I am stuck. No matter what I do I can't seem to get the fsb over 215. This is what I have done:

Reduced memory from 3.33 to 2.66.
Now for the memory to hit 667 I need to make the fsb 250.
Then I change the multiplier to 12. Which should give me a clock speed of 3.0 but it doesn't work.

If I leave the ram underclocked I can only get the fsb to 215 before the computer doesn't boot. The default fsb is 200.

Where exactly am I going wrong? Kinda confused. Thanks for any help.

Motherboard: Gigabyte M68M-S2P

The power supply is a Thermaltake purepower 500W.

Your limited on your overclock because of your motherboard. Take a look at the Athlon II X 4 club for your cpu.

So is the only way to go higher, is to get a new motherboard?

Generic memory might not help, might hold your CPU back actually. Has done so for a friend and Athlon II x4 640, DDR2 platform [had 2x1GB, 2x512MB DDR2-667 CL5 generic]; upgraded to 2x2Gb of 1066Mhz CL5 and it not only increased his performance to begin with, overclock went much further
If you're running 3 DIMMs of RAM by the way remove one; your performance will improve mountains with 2 DIMMs in proper dual channel
