Need build suggestions - $500

Thread Starter
Client has $500 to spend on a box (has to include windows). Uses of note are light video editing and outputting to a projector for movies. He doesn't have blu-rays so it won't be 1080p.

The $500 is for the box only. Possibly keyboard/mouse combo... cheaper logitech package or something.

I already have an idea of what I want to build but decided to post here as well.

Thanks!

Have you taken a look at the full systems section? You'll get better bang for your buck there. Does your client mind used? $500 is hard but doable, but with windows 7 that would take a toll .

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

All for $482.96 including shipping.

EDIT: now I see it needs to include keyboard/mouse combo. In that case, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.592012

So, $513 including shipping. $498 without.

Not to criticize negatively or anything, but a lot of the parts are seriously overkill, starting with the motherboard, the power supply, and finally the CPU (which is slower than the Athlon II X3, yet costs more).
You could easily get Windows 7 included in the budget.

Would I be able to get away simply using an 880G chipset you think? Or is that undercutting performance needs?

I was looking at video cards like the 5560 and the gts430.

I think using an integrated video card in a desktop nowadays should only be reserved for systems which need to be super cheap (like, say, $350). I was able to get a Radeon HD 4650 into the budget, and that's a card that is easily 5x faster than an IGP and should be able to handle all casual gaming and even some hardcore gaming, provided you lower settings accordingly.

The Athlon II X3 should be great for multitasking and by default it comes with a high clock speed. As for the Power Supply, it's gotten great reviews all over the net and is high-quality. It should provide more than enough power for the system even if you over-clock it. Everything else is pretty much what you'd expect.
