First time OC'er needs help

Thread Starter
hey everyone.

I'm new to the whole OC'ing and was wondering if i can get some help

I'm in the midst of purchasing an intel C2D 3.0ghz E8400, Foxconn 45cmx mobo, and 4gigs of kingston ddr2 ram and was wondering with the potential of the E8400 for OC'ing i would look into it. was just wondering if i will be able to OC this setup and if so is there any special instructions or walk through needed? iv seen them for certain boards but cant seem to find this board. any help would be appreciated
thanks

p.s i do know that my board has a software tool called Fox One for doing software OC'ing but was wondering if i should use that or if its possible to oc it in the bios.

why are you purchasing an E8400?are you looking for max FSB speed or anything specific for that system?

E8400 are good overclockers, but i really wouldn't suggest buying one, as they are becoming really outdated now, everybody's moving onto quads and hexacores. Your better of getting a quad and overclocking one of them. thumb.gif

E8400 is a hell of a chip.

I found an E0 chip in an old workstation at the office and it hit 3.9Ghz no problem.

the reason im buying the e8400 is because my current setup an intel board (forgot the model) with a pent 4 single core 3.0ghz cpu and 3 gigs of ddr ram system is out dated worse then the 8400 n my buddy is building a phenom II X4 system and its his old build so hes selling it to me for cheap so im gonna upgrade to that.

In that case i think it is okay smile.gif i thought you would be buying the E8400 brand new, and that would not be the best deal unless you werethinking of throw it to -100ºC and aim for FSB 700+.

My advice is set the ram to 400 in BIOS and start playing with FSB. It will start with 333MHz and can easily go to 400 with minor adjustments to Voltage.
That board isn't a top Overclocker, but it should allow you to reach a decent number with stability. For 4GHz you need to set FSB to 445, but this will require Voltage increase and a good cooler.
