Raditor Question

Thread Starter
I got myself the Extended Ascension and I want to mount a 360 rad in the front.
In a pull config ...so fans first drawing cold air from the outside and cooling the rad that is installed on them.

Only problem is that the screws that come with the rad are too small because they are meant to only mount the rad on the case and the fans behind it in a push config.

Do I need special screws long enough to pierce the fans and reach the rad or am I just confusing something?

The screws that normally hold the fans on should be long enough to go through the case wall and the fans. Do they not reach?
Depending upon the thickness of the front panel wall you may need to get some longer bolts.

I would double check them as Kevin stated, but if you find that the bolts do not fit then head on down to the local hardware store and get the same size/threading, but a little longer.

NOTE: You may not be able to get bolts that are only 1/8" (approx.) longer. If that is the situation then you will need to either:
  1. Get some spacers/washers to take up the extra length
  2. Cut the new bolts down to size

This is to avoid puncturing the radiator when you install the bolts.

[edit]

Either way, when using non-standard (stock) hardware take great care when tightening the mounting hardware.

Personal experience, the GTX360 for example comes with screws that are only fit to connect a 25mm, and that's it. Its not long enough to connect to the case.

To the OP:
Find a good hardware store, and get the right size screws you need.
That is what I did.

I will show you on a picture what I mean.

http://img.techpowerup.org/101005/Capture442.jpg

First the fans ...and the radiator is mounted on the fans. ...my question now is how do I achieve this result?
Do I just need extra long screws that will go threw the fans to fix both fans and rad?
Or can I do it with the screws that come with fans and rad?
I have the Phobya G Changer 1.2
it only comes with M3x30mm Screws

as to your subject: I am not really sure what you are asking that we have not already said... you simply need to use screws that are long enough to go through the fans and the case wall into the radiator. with any luck the screws that came with the rad that are intended to hold the fans on are long enough, however otherwise you will need to get some from your local hardware store or a site like www.mcmaster.com

there is a chance you cannot buy the exact right length screws, in which case you will have to follow syrillian's advice and either cut them or use spacers so that you do not puncture the rad with too long of screws.

I don't have the same radiator but I have the same case. The screws that came with the Swiftech 360 rad didn't have the reach so I got some 1-1/4" bolts that work perfectly but DO NOT take my word for it and double check to make sure you don't hit the radiator. Good luck.

I don't know if you have grills on the outside, but I DO have wire grills on mine so that will take up some of the 1-1/4" of the bolts I used.

I have the Phobya G Changer 1.2 which comes with M3 30mm screws...persumably they will be too short ...the screw must also hold the fan grill, fan filter, anti vibrationpads, normal fan,and still be able to fix the rad.

I don´t know for sure what form factor of screw will be required for that but I hope you could advise me.

Would the screws that come with my rad be enough to just hold the fans and rad?
