Only reason to get a 6950 over a 570 is if you want multi-monitor, lower power consumption, or using a 2560x1600 monitor.. The 570 is faster, has Physx, Cuda, folding, cooler, quieter, better image quality, better overclocking, and better tessellation for future games.

OP, please do consider and focus on what you really need.

Again, don't fall into the trap of thinking you can SLI later. By that time, people might just suggest you get another single high-end card.

So if you want to be set for quite a while (let's say 2-3 years), go for gtx 460 SLI and you won't even need to think about upgrading for another 2 years.

Otherwise, if you're the kind of geek who always wants to mess around with the new toys, like me then 570 hands down. At least that's what I would do but for confirmation, I do believe 460s SLI are on par or even stronger than 1 GTX 580 and they also scale amazingly well in SLI. And all of them, 460s, 570, 580 are excellent overclockers.

Nonsense.

Multi-monitor, yes. 2560x1600, no.
This is a misconception on the side of the HD 6950.
You can run 1080p with 768MB perfectly fine.
The only reason you'll ever want for 2GB is 6MP+ or at least 3x24" monitors.
But even then, a slightly better card would still give you higher performance.

Crap.
nVidia deliberately cripples Double-Precision DC to protect their professional cards.
And besides, 2GB is far more future-proof.

So, to reiterate:

HD 6950 - Faster, Multi-Monitor, Lower Power-Consumption, Cooler, Quieter.
GTX 570 - PhysX, CUDA/Folding.

Done.

They're about equally as cool and quiet. The GTX 570 overclocks better, but only if you want it to blow up afterwards.

Better image quality? Untrue.

Better tessellation? Subjective.

Bs the 6xxx series coolers are insanely loud over 50% leading to higher temps if you dont want your ears to bleed

It doesnt lower it enough to notice on a high end card.

Why wouldnt I? Check the 570 overclocking thread. As long as you dont mess with the bios and go over 1.1 you will be fine. Altering the bios on a 6950 can mess the card up also. Funny coming from someone who says p67 boards are ok before the problem is fixed.

Thread Starter
would my noctua nh-d14 and the HAF 942's cooling be enough to keep SLI 460 temps down. Sound really isnt an issue, i just want the best bang for my buck. and to be future proof. cuz i dont plan on upgrading for at least a few years. yea they will come out with better computers, but seriously what more could u need. hardly anyone can max out thier current high-end rigs.

also, i have never overclocked before but i plan on reading into it a lot more and overclocking my cpu, and gpu.

My 570 overclocks to 960/1900/2100 on stock cooler at 1.1v just fine after 10 3DMark10 runs and around 2 hours of gaming on Crysis and it runs Crysis like a god indoors around 70-80FPS at 1080p outside is around 47-60FPS but thats a great framerate for just a single card.

Totally reccomend this card, most likely grabbing another one in the future. This is unless I see a good step up path in the 70ish days I have left.
