This is true, but not knowing how OP ultimately wants to go.. it helps to show him the mult and single gpu solutions for the 6900,6800 and 5800 series of ati/amd gpus...

This way they can make a more informed decision on their GPU purchase...

crossfire 6870 is a final solution as no upgrade will be available in the future since it can only do 2 in crossfire. If you choose to go 6950, you can always add another in the future. Also, the 69xx has more vram and will allow higher quality resolution for multi-display in eyefinity.

I dont honestly ever intend on doing Eyefinity. That is just a bit much for me.

As for watching a movie and play at the same time, it's more of a background noise then anything else. I generally don't play most games with sound on, I usually have it off, but I do like to have some kind of background noise. Yea I am just weird like that.

If I were to crossfire cards, i would be cross firing 6870s, that much i know for sure. The current cost of two 6870s is just a touch more then the cost of a single 6950. So now it comes down to which card(s) is going to provide the better performance now. Yes the 6950 allows for upgrade later, but I am generally not the kind of person to upgrade my computer every year or so. The build i am on right now i think i have had for a good 6 years at least. I am looking to do something similar with this new build. Create a system that will last and hold it's own for a good while before needing another major overhaul.

Recently i built a few systems with the same cpu but different gpus. 1 was 6850cf, 1 was 6870cf and 1 was 6950cf. Benchmarked them all with Metro 2033

The difference from 6850cf to 6870cf was only 4fps and the difference from 6870cf to 6950cf was 5-6fps.

The cost from 6850cf to 6870cf was $120aud and the difference from 6870cf to 6950cf was $140aud.

In the end there was MINIMAL difference in fps when i overclocked the 6850cf but i did notice the min fps increase with the OC which was good.

So to say what is the bang for bucks CF setup card I would technically say 6850cf is the way to go but IF cooling is an issue for you then get the 6870cf. The 6850 has the stupid cooler which doesn't vent hot air out the case which did annoy me a bit as it increase the temp inside the case and every other part in the case.
