HDMI port on my GPU..

Thread Starter
What can I use this for? I have a GTX 460, and it has a mini HDMI cable, and the GPU came with an adapter.

I am confused as to why its on the card. I cannot use the port to display an image on my desktop.. Also, if it is possible, is mini HDMI worse than regular HDMI? I have an adapter, but does the quality weaken?

Further more, should I stick with digital or go to HDMI, if possible.

Thanks, +rep to helpful posts, tried searching, but could not find my answers.

It's HDMI out.
There's no difference in quality for mini HDMI or HDMI.

Yeah.

You know what I meant though. Is the quality on HDMI better, than using a dvi cable.

when I said digital, I meant dvi.

some monitors have hdmi ports on them, which is why its on the card.

And they are the same quality wise, hdmi just also carries the audio signal, unlike dvi

Will I get better audio quality if I use my GPU? Or will that increase GPU usage, resulting in lower FPS in games..

Also, when I try and use it, I get the no signal message on my monitor.

from what i heard the onboard sound on the gtx 460 arent that great.. but my personal preference is using dvi, i feel its a bit more secure, but if you need sound hdmi would be a better option.

for the most part Hdmi = Dvi + audio (all in one cable)

Is there a reason when I connect the hdmi cable from my monitor to my gpu, I get no signal error?? (yes I switched channels)

And yeah, I already understood the concept of HDMI. The reason I am posting is because my GPU wont display an image to my monitor when using HDMI, then I stated will it be better to use dvi or hdmi.

Its not the cable, I tried it on my TV.. works fine.

From what i've read, it doesn't really make a difference on audio quality. When I used HDMI, I never noticed any performance loss because of it. And I'm not too sure with the no signal message, I stopped using HDMI and switched to DVI because I was having a lot of problems with my computer randomly switching resolutions and picture cutting out like I was pulling the cable out or something. Sorry I can't be of more help on that one
