RAID 0 - Onboard or Adaptec 1420SA

Thread Starter
In the past I experienced dismal RAID 0 performance with my onboard RAID controller (ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe). Even three 7200RPM SATA drives were slower (seq read) than one 7200.11 Seagate. I never figured out why and sold off the 3 drives long ago.

I'm reconsidering a RAID 0 setup again and want to know if the Adaptec 1420sa (I can pick one up very easily) will offer better RAID 0 performance than your typical onboard controller?

Obviously both setups are still essentially software RAID, so what benefits can the Adaptec offer?

Edit: Here's a screenshot I managed to find of the 3 drive array.

Lately I have heard nothing about horror stories with people using the onboard RAID and it failing and loosing their data. I would recommend against using it.
