so is final fantasy 14 good now? anyone play it? - Page 2

The sad thing FFXI was so awesome that I wasted 7yrs of my life on it. This game is just awful. I keep trying to play it, but the biggest problem for me is that my character feels flimsy when moving around. FFXI had a really solid interface which made it great. This game has a horrible interface that feels very laggy.

I am running a pretty tight system and T1 internet so this really is the game itself that feels soft.

Same wasted a long time on FFXI, but I believe FFXI had its own launch problems, not as severe as 14 but it did before it was released international. I'm hoping that within 1 more year of development will right what is wrong hopefully.

I too have wasted the last 7ish years on FFXI and have to agree with FFXI being heads and shoulders about FFXIV.

And in that lies the problem...

Myself and everyone I know just expected to migrate to XIV with it being more or less XI-2 but with better graphics, a single zone world and tons and tons of content. What we received was a bug infested, laggy mess with tons and tons of off limit areas and almost zero content save for the incredibly stupid grind that was built into everything at the start.

There is hope for XIV as SE is actually starting to listen to their player base (well those of us that stuck around) for now it is very solo/casual friendly and the XP flows in (at least up to levels 30~35), they fired the original team and brought in a lot of XI's developers and have managed to actually make the game understandable and playable. Oh yeah, it is still free to play too!

Yes there is hope. We just have to hope that the initial loss of players (80% were estimated to have left when they initially decided to start charging to play) doesn't doom FFXIV to a 1~2 year lifespan.

That was a big major problem during "alpha/beta" stages, no interaction between dev and testers. Felt like it was some sort of joke the devs came up.

Compared to the real world, FFXIV is in beta testing with PC players. PS3 release will be the "real" game. They are making leaps and bounds and I enjoy playing the current state of the game.

I'm Vispor Selene on Kashuan.

God I loved XI, played for 5 years. Was always worried about XIV, didn't feel it would ever live up to XI. I played the open beta and liked it well enough but didn't buy it due to the things I didn't like. I still have a mild interest in it, and since it's free to play for the moment (any ideas on how long that will last?) I might pick it up sometime. Also, after playing XI for so long using a 360 controller (played on both 360 and PC) I found XIV quite easy to control with one, even the menu nav.

I thought Final Fantasy XIV was subscription based?

Is it that bad they had to make it free to play just to keep people on board?

Did they ever fix the mana regen issue? I tried the beta and it royally miffed me that I could cast about 4 spells then I was basically defenseless unless I died to regen mana.

No, it was that bad that SE said they'll keep it Free to play until they fix the issues of the game.

So...who knows what their definition of "fixed" is, either way you're paying $39.99 to gain access to a Beta right now lol
