Here's 3 threads to read to get up to speed folks.
  1. Mini-review: Direct comparison between 34nm and 25nm drives using 0-fill highly compressible data and 0/1-fill partially compressible data
  2. New update on the 25nm OCZ SSD drives

I have recieved one of these new drives and the performance is lacking somewhat:
Results form drive - format installed windows on drive (whilst in laptop) and ran tests with drive attached as a storage drive for my sig rig:

OCZ (from their forums) seem to be offering a "upgrade" from the 25nm 64Gbit to the 32Gbit - but this will only help with raid configs and will recover some space on the drives (eg - formatted capacity of my drive is 51.24gb - so there is a large chunk missing as it should be ~56.8gb

review of the 32nm vs 25nm 60gb Vertex 2:

I didnt see anything on this issue on OCN so i thought id post it here too.

Yep, I recently purchased a 60GB Vertex 2 model from Newegg and ended up receiving a 25nm model (drive formats to 51.1gb, bios v1.27 preloaded). It is by all means faster than ANY of the mechanical drives hooked up to my computer but I am just a bit disappointed that the write speeds are not on par with the 32nm counterpart.

Iamthebull - check the model number - if it has an E close to the end of the model you likely have a 25nm one.....

mine as i said also formats to ~51gb - i have firmware 1.28 though. its madea huge difference to my laptop but it could be better (not in my laptop but in general - laptop is SATA1)

Im trying to find more info - but the only thing that can be done is to "rma" it to get a drive that still has 25nm chips - but a different style - such that they work better with the older drives in raid. otherwise we just have to live with it pretty much :/

According to the AS-SSD Benchmark you are in IDE mode. Try installing with AHCI enabled in BIOS then install latest IRST drivers. There is a newer FW also -- 1.29.

Correct - my laptop doesnt have any ahci bios option.....
where is the 1.29 firmware? only 1.28 is listed on their site....

Ill be formatting my sig rig soon and running raid again wit hthe hdds, so it will be in raid/ahci mode then to test again.....

Iamthebull - you probably have a 25nm one - mine is a OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G

You have to use the toolbox or Gparted to flash going forward.

Just realized I was running the 1.28 firmware (thought I had 1.27).

My results are not that far from yours... I must say, I am a bit disappointed in my drive.

Do you have write caching enabled for your drive? It's control panel>device manager>disk drives>double click the drive>policies tab>check the box, enable write caching on this device.
