Overclocking Athlon II x4 635 to at least 3.4 GHZ

post #1 of 25
Thread Starter
This will be my first question for this forum, so please bear with me... I've read on a thread here that it's possible to OC this CPU to about 3.5Ghz... I'll be happy to settle for 3.4Ghz if somebody can give me the correct settings for my MOBO, which is an MSI K9N6PGM2-V2... This is already a challenge for me, as I'm only able to push it to 3.25Ghz prime95 stable... Anybody with the same MOBO and CPU able to make it work?

Here's the detalis:
* Athlon II X4 type: 635
* BIOS Version: V2.7
* Clock speed: 3251 (241 Mhz) Original: 2913 (200 Mhz)
* FSB x Multi: x13.5
* Vcore: Auto
* RAM speed: 800 Mhz
* NB speed: 1963.3 Mhz (multi x8)
* NB Voltage: Auto
* HT Link: 981.6 (set to 800 Mhz)
* HT Voltage: Auto
* Motherboard: MSI K9N6PGM2-V2
* Cooling method: HSF
* OCZ Vendetta 2
* Win 7 64 bit

Thanks in advance guys!!! ^_^

Anyone? I was able to bump it up some more to 3374 by adding voltage to the RAM, but I don't know where on the motherboard I can set the voltage for the CPU...

The only options I have are:
CPU-VDD
CPU-ND
DRAM

What values will I need to put on CPU-VDD and CPU-ND to make it work? Thanks!

*Edit: Nope, not stable on Prime95... So is 3251 Mhz the max speed I can go? Thanks!

HT-link is to low. Needs to be around 2000+-. Don't mess with the ram yet.

Thanks for the reply! My board can only handle HT speed of 1000 MT/S, would it be fine if I set it to 2000?

Nope, can't handle 3.3 Ghz even with the voltage increase, so I guess I'm stuck with 3.25 Ghz...

Are you dropping the RAM multiplier when you increase the bus speed? At the bus speed your ram is running at 960mhz, which could explain why it's not stable.

I have an Athlon 630 mate, current settings hit 3.5GHz for me:

C&Q Disabled
CPU FSB 250
CPU Multi 14x
CPU-NB Ratio 8x
HT Link 4x (or 800MHz)

RAM - DCT0 7-8-7-20 1.65v (though this may change for your RAM)
Divider 1:2.66 (1333MHz)

CPU 1.4V (Try higher if it fails) <-This is most likely where it's falling down on your OC
SB 1.3V

Good luck

Yes, dropped it to 1:1.66 and it bought RAM back to 800 mhz... On my Bus (241 Mhz x13.5), it can only handle 3.25 Ghz on Prime95, getting memory dump if I get the multiplier higher...

Yes, I think as well that's why my OC is limited to 3.25Ghz... There is nowhere on my BIOS where I can change the CPU voltage, and I have already updated the BIOS to the most recent version... I can only change the CPUVDD, CPU-NB and RAM voltage...

So, that's the reason why I think I'm stuck at 3.25 Ghz...
