I am actually going to take the opposite view. If you don't want to do it, don't. Don't be pressured to take a job you don't want to do just because their is a time constraint. Keep all your options open and wait to hear from other employers. Its not all about the money:

If you find a job that you love you'll never have to work a day in your life.

how is it not helping? You want us to tell you not to take the internship? You want to come work here in the states, and we are telling you that ITS VERY HARD TO GET A JOB RIGHT NOW HERE IN THE STATES. It's not because its AMD that we are telling you to do it, its part of it yes, but the fact that you are OFFERED an internship that PAYS you here in the UNITED STATES who's economy is in a total **** hole.

I got out of the marine corps in 2009, I knew the economy was crap, I wanted to join the fire academy and seeing as I live in this great state called california who's more broke than the homeless guy at the corner of my apartment complex, I decided to go back to school while the Veterans Association pays for my education.

I don't know what the economical situation is in Canada, but here in the US during these times, if you have a company willing to offer you a job and pay you well, you take it. You gotta eat right, you need a place to stay right, you want to have dolla dolla bills to throw at strippers right? Take the job man. Even if it is only for a year, you may hate the crap out of it, but like some said its only a year. It goes by fast trust me, 14 months in Iraq felt like 3 months.

From reading into the guy's post, don't go for the job?

Doesn't sound like you're too thrilled about it.

If you want to try something new, go for it.

As AgentHydra said, If you find a job that you love you'll never have to work a day in your life.

I feel I wasted much of my professional life on wrong career paths due to available jobs. So take my advice with a grain of salt.

Yes, I know America is in the dumps (economically-wise) but I still believe if you do good work (or have some sort of skill) you'll survive. Having a 48 hr deadline means they want this guy for some reason.
