x58 or p67?

Thread Starter
OK, so im going to be upgrading soon. Im trying to decide whether or not to go with the x58 chipset, or the new p67 (When they're re-released). As far as i know of, there isnt that many differences between the two except that the p67 uses the new sandy-bridge chips, in terms of features that is. So this means i basically have two questions. 1) will the new intel cpus be that much better than the 1st gen i7's? 2) Which do i go with x58 or p67?

Get Sandy Bridge when they are re-released, the chips are amazing and they overclock like champs. X58 is old news at this point unless you want a 980x, which really isn't needed.

im sticking with my p55 set up till LGA2011 comes out and see from there if its worth getting ivy bridge or the 2011 socket i say go with p67 though if your looking to upgrade now
post #6 of 23
ive heard nothing but good things from the SB. its new, it runs cooler, and somewhat cheaper. im on a x58 platform and i still love it. only thing ive heard recently is the i7 970 hexacore just went down in price and im really debating about grabbing it. but if i were in your shoes, id get the sb and leap frog the x58 unless you cant wait for ivy cause thats what i really want in terms of upgrading.

definitely P67. X58 is more than 2 years old, which means it is going to be phased out soon. And there is hardly a performance difference between the 2, while p67 chips are more power efficient.

There really is no reason to go x58 over p67

Go with the newest, lol. If your already on 1366 then there isnt really reason to upgrade but in your case go with p67, newer and faster, also less expensive.

the 2600k is faster and cooler than the 950. This cannot be disputed. People brag, you may not like it, get used to it. When ivy bridge comes out, it will be the same thing
post #10 of 23
P67 is worth getting if you're willing to wait a bit for the new mobos to come out. Though there's nothing wrong with X58, if you don't want to wait - get it, but bear in mind that you'll be getting <=10% less performance for more or less the same price.
