The Nitpicked Budget Build?

Thread Starter
well lets see how you AMD guys do it around here. Budget is 600-700, I live in california so be aware of tax and crap this state charges us californians. To better calculate the price here is my zipcode 90292.

Parts I don't need:
- HDD
- Monitor
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Case
- OS

Parts I do need:
- Mobo
- Cpu
- Ram
- PSU
- GPU
- Heatsink

Things to keep in mind:
- Must have modular PSU
- I prefer blue colored mobo/ blue or black ram
- Will be crossfiring/sli in the near future (this should help with GPU selection)
- I'd like to be able to run Crisis 2 on high (after the crossfire/sli)
- also I'm not too anal about gpu but I prefer Nvidia over AMD (puts on tin foil hat)
- Will also be overclocking the CPU to ATLEAST 4.0 ghz

RELEASE THE KRACKEN!!

Phenom II x6 1090T + ASUS M4A79XTD EVO - $279, $264 AR
2x2 G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 CL7-8-7 - $65
XFX 650W Modular PSU + XFX HD 6870 Black Edition - $300, $250 AR

Only slightly over budget at $708.40 before rebates, but it follows all the rules
Down to $643.40 after

You could downgrade to x4 processor, but remember that Crysis 2 is designed to take advantage of more than just 4 cores (up to 8 actually, so it would be good on i7 or future AMD Bulldozer) so your performance may degrade a bit

just the person I was hoping to reply to this thread haha. ahh crap I forgot to mention I need a heatsink as well!

If you don't need a really high end heatsink you could probably get away with just adding a hyper 212 to xd's build. Which should still keep you under $700.

PSU 99$ (-30$ MIR)
RAM 50$ shipped
CPU 160$ shipped
Cooler 46$ shipped (-15$ MIR)
SLI Mobo+MSI GTX 460 245$ (-40$ MIRS)
this comes down right under 650$ before rebates including shipping + tax (get rebates then add another 460 for sli) psu is modular and will handle an overclocked system and sli 460 no problem , mobo will overclock nicely so will the ram , should do 8-8-8-24-1T , note when u plan to sli 460 OC cpu to 3.8-4Ghz , NB to 2.8-3Ghz and ur golden .
good luck with ur build
