GTX480 is better in Sli overall. SLi scales better than Xfire.
But 6970 is not that far behind, it consumes lesser power giving less heat. Get 2x6950 and unlock them into 6970 and xfire to save a few bucks.

570 is par or beats the 480.

570 is about par with the 6970.

6970 xfire uses less power, hence less heat. Crossfire also scales nearly perfectly in the new cards.

If you have a 480, get a second and save the cash. But 6970 xfire is more practical long term as the drivers are still young and the extra power use will pay for itself over 4 years of use.

Personal preference is what it boils to.

Actually 480 can beat the 570, I vote go 480 SLI and dabble into some WCing, as two 480's at 900 core will obliterate 6970 CF.

You are already water cooler, unleash the best and WC your 480, then you will be ready to WC Kepler as well.
