Quick wireless n question

Thread Starter
What real world performance ex. transferring a 1GB file would i be seeing with a 150mbps wireless connection? how about 300mbps?

and does the Atheros Ar5b97 support 300mbps?

thanks in advance.

wireless networks can generally transfer at close to 50% of their rated speed, so 150Mb/s gives 150/8*0.5~=8MB/s; 1GB should transfer in a bit over 2 minutes. The Atheros chip supports WiFi n (so 600) but the actual speed depends on the card it's been welded on:

cool so i should be able to get 18MB/s a second with a 300mbps router?

any conflicting issues with my wireless chip with this router?

i plan to replace my WRT54G which acts only as an wireless access point atm with a gigabit, 300mbps router/ap.

If you transfer big enough files you may get to 18MB/s (maybe more); as far as I have seen WiFi connections need some time to spool up to full speed.
I know of no incompatibility between your wireless chip and that router; maybe you should open a thread with that particular question, OCNers are likely to miss your inquiry of the question isn't in the thread title.

my laptop is using 150mb connection and when transferring a movie file from my server it is getting 5~6MB/s transfer, double that would be 300mb connection.
