Worst Case Scenario for PC Gaming

Alright so according to this article posted her on OCN, EA's future for PC gaming is multiplayer.

Without all the 12 year old whining about whether or not EVE or WOW sucks or not, the PC gaming community might be going down ****'s creek.

I promise I'll be quick. (That's what she said.)

So with PC games dwindling by the month - i think March is the first major release month in a while - PC gamers are kinda weary. Our next major game is Diablo III. But, then, what next? As more and more developers move to MMOs -because, in all honesty, it's WAY more lucrative than selling single player games -the single player experience will be a thing of the past for PC gamers.

In order for true "market harmonization," as my professor likes to say, PC-specific games must die. It was a major market before, but with everything LITERALLY being in HD (not in the true respect that HD is) people don't have to buy PC's to get quality content as most of that content is on consoles already. And to the average person, lack of AA in games is meaningless. So, basically, what we'll see is: console gaming, (that might also to move MMO's, but that's a different story for another time) handheld and phone gaming, (with the NGP on the horizon, and new Tegra-3 chips being annouced) and some MMOs for PC.

Suffice it to say, as PC gamers, we're dead in the water.

I don't even know what to say. I am not even going to look up titles of games coming out that I am looking forward to.

There will not be any shortage of PC games, much like there are no shortages of books, works of art, new music, new movies, new clothes. There maybe a dry spell where there are no best sellers, or trend starters, but they will come eventually. I am personally looking forward to Rage or Doom4.

There will always be some titles that are exclusive to a console, or to a PC, and there will be the rise and fall of developers. If consoles were the pinnacle of gaming existence, there would never be a need for new generations. That means we will all use Xbox360s and PS3s for the next 20 years to play non-mmorpgs. Logic in itself has been proven wrong and wrong again.

Multiplayer is a large part of where PC gaming has gone, and Consoles are only successful because they emulate a fraction of the PC world. Soon though, like every PC, they will be so obsolete, they will be replaced with newer shinier and hotter consoles for us to start this debate all over again. If it wasn't even for one popular title "World of Warcraft" that made MMORPGs so mainstream to all, rather than a niche of players, we would all probably be in a different heading once again.

Such simple thinking. It's okay, I forgive you. Look farther, man. You'll see what I'm saying. I've been a PC gamer my entire life. My first game was Full Throttle. But that was just before the days for major consoles. Watch, next batch of consoles will completely obliterate PC gaming, and all we'll be left are ports. They'll be nothing for us PC gamers to revel in.

Stopped reading once I seen that, D3 doesn't even have a release date yet. BF3 and some other games will surely be better than D3.

PC's have had HD since the 90's....

Man do I hate reading ignorant stuff like this

There is a list of games on consoles at what resolution. Have fun playing those one lower resolutions than the PC and at a lower frame rate with worse graphics to boot.

I just can't get into online games. I kind of enjoy the call of duty type games but the novelty wears out quickly and I'd rather have a game with good graphics and story.

Its simple, because its honest. Every console generation has always impressed us on first impressions, and then the PC does something that a console can never do, be upgraded. The only limit on your computer is how much dosh you are willing to spend on it really.

You have no proof, no evidence, nobody does. Nobody reads the future. One can predict the end of the world every single day for eternity. One day the world will end, but you have to be wrong a lot before that day happens. Consumers are wishy washy one day to the next. Nobody can know what the next big thing is going to be.

Virtual reality will always have a place in our world in some form of another, and we will manipulate it with some interface or another.

The death of all video gaming will be the day when we have something like the "holodeck" and even then, hopefully in my lifetime, I will tell my grand kids to piss off, I am playing Total Annihilation on my obsolete PC wall.

Lol just merely pointing out where we might be (hint, the keyword is might) going in terms of the PC realm. And in terms of BC3 and D3, D3 has no date and BC3 has one for the end of this year. And obviously no one can read the future. But it's damn easy to read market fluctuations and consumer trends, and all I'm merely saying - from the get-go, just merely saying - is that all this whining about PC games being on consoles and people whining about constant internet connect for single player campaigns could very well be the start of something we won't like.

That is all. And if I didn't articulate my argument, please tell me. But don't misdirect the conversation to suit yourself and your interests. I'm stating something, and if you see otherwise, back it up.

Worst case scenario for PC games is that EA is right. Multiplayer is not the answer, but if that's what it comes down to then I'll have to get more indoor RCs.
