I'll take a cyanide pill before playing on a console. Or maybe just the blue one from the matrix.

ill stop gaming entire before i start playing consoles.

Worst case scenario, the major publishers stop making PC games. Which then Allows small companies and innovative developers to once again push PC gaming forward, because they no longer have to attempt to keep up with the AAA publisher marketing campaigns. Developers like Obsidian, Tripwire Interactive, and just about every mod team out there would love for that to happen.

Wait, thats best case scenario.

Worst case scenario is the Big name publishers take more notice of PC gaming and stick to it.

I can think of several PC games I'm interested in that are coming out in the next year just off the top my head. If anything, I believe that PC gaming is actually becoming more popular.

same a old argument, been going on for years!

its always piracy is killing pc gaming and consoles rule.

as long as they make a profit developers will still support pc not matter what excuse they use. If I were a developer and felt every pirated copy is a lost sale I would be upset as well but I would still sell pc games because I would still make enough money to buy my houses and sports cars.

Its all about the money.

Now if the argument is focus will be placed on console and Pc gaming would get less focus, well i would agree with that as there is a much larger user base on a console.

But if the argument is PC gaming will die, well I have to disagree. I don't believe there is a chance of that in our lifetimes

Never happen. Every time the console side of the industry falls down they go back to PC. it'll happen again.

Not like there is anything wrong with PC gaming as it is now. Some console games don't make it... That's about it though.

evil facebook has some awesome "little" games, very fun, very fun, just kidding

Trust me, anyone that gives their real info to FB is a fool.

If you write a killer guitar solo, like this

(the audio is slightly ahead of the video, and YM didn't write this, he just improvises around this great adagio)

and post it on evil FB, and they can prove that you wrote it, THEY WILL STEAL IT...BECAUSE THEY ARE EVIL CRIMINALS.

I think the main issue is that you can get decent graphics from a $300 console and cant get anything near usefull on a $700 computer. I dont think the throw away economy is an issue, i think prices are. What would be a good sub $1000 pc from wall mart or best buy that can play games at a decent enough quality. Many of us on this forum build our own pc's which turn out to be much more powerful than big box pc's at the same price. my sig rig cost ~$1200, does that mean that a Dell XPS 9100 which come base at $1000 is similar in performace i think not. And with the Radeon 5670 it come with it would be hard to enjoy newer games like metro 2033 on a 1080p screen, I think the biggest problem with the pc game industry are the computers themselves. When people think PC gaming many of them say, Alienware, thats a major issue, take a look at the entry level $999 Aurora.
Core i3 540
3GB DDR1333
Radeon 5670

you could build a system with basically the same components, with an extra 1gb of ram (why would they gice you 3gb in a dual channel system) for $300 less and still have full windows support from microsoft. this is where the problem is.

I can pick up an xbox 360 or ps3 for $300 brand new and play whatever game that is available on it on my 1080p screen and still find the detail good. I cant take the same game and purchase it for my off the shelf $600 pc. Also i know many people who would love to game on pc but cant figure out how they can get a system that can play everything on max that is affordable. not everyone can dump $2000+ into a big brand computer. I also believe that local shops have made a habit of really pressing the local people. I went to a local shop(mom and pops would be an accurate description) and ask for a GTX 570, they looked at me like i was an alien, then I asked what is the best video card you have in stock, they showed my a radeon 5770, I asked the price and out of this young girl came the number $375. I asked how much a core i7 computer would be and they told me that it would come with 3 gb of 1066 ram, a core i7 930, a radeon 5770, 1tb hard drive and a dvd burner, in a beautiful Lian Li K58W case(i love this case), then the young girl again said a number that could make your bowels move, $1700 and that was WITHOUT windows 7 that was an extra $250 "for the sticker" as she said. I don't know if this is how it usually is where you are but this is the usual story here. So tell me is piracy the biggest issue or is inability to get a good computer the issue? As i recall xbox 360 games are pirated.

Also i am getting sick and tired of people calling me from walmart and asking if "insert computer here" with a quad core is enough for facebook and youtube.!! but thats off topic!

Maybe I will shed some light on this...

It has been my experience that gaming in general comes in cycles... with PC being dominate for quite awhile, that said, I started many years ago with PC gaming and still come back to it for new IP.

Consoles became popular with the famicom and nintendo utilizing popular characters and rebranding multiple marketing avenues, with Sony close behind branding first a CD rom with the system, then a DVD player... now we are in the HD age, so Blu-Ray is the anchor to the system. PC suffered for this due to sale slips to consumer volume. ie. there just wasnt the kind of money to be made vs. the amount of development time involved with production. Microsofts interest in console gaming has far more to do with limiting the market share of nintendo and to a greater extent the Sony systems to counter a statement made when PS2 was in 1 of every 4 houses, that Sony's dream was to "end the reign of the home computer". The shot heard around the world.

Flash forward, games now cost more than they ever had to produce, console vendors have suffered tremendous slow downs in resale, and PC equipment has become ever cheaper... back to that cycle again... having of heard that 2011 is the year of the PC game is no understatement... there are dozens of titles slated for release this year and PC component sku's are on the rise. Why?

In a way we are able to thank the consoles for pushing for better and better looking games, and increasing there own cost, these cost being best offset by offering the title across multiple platforms simultaneously, and as gaming goes, most people who game do want the best experience and as such, the PC becomes popular again.

Its interesting to see that as the console has become more like a PC, that the PC in turn has become more accessible like a console. The best thing for PC as a genre is an educated public, and in that, the console divisions of these companies have become there own worst enemies by competing with each other right back into a realm that they cannot compete in.

A few years back in some of my stores I could not of given away a PC, now... PS3's and WII's collect dust and computers are whats hot. Theres more to this than one post could really delve into suffice to say, PC is here to stay, there is room for the consoles... but I tend to think of them as a gateway drug.
