I used to have a 5970 and I couldn't get it working in a single game.

Go with the 580 bro

You mean to tell me that you wasted over a GRAND on a GPU that isnt even all that great? And it wasn't even the ARES. God... waste of money... You're never gonna see that money again. People like you are those I hate in this community.

Lol i guess i left a sour taste in your mouth... money comes and goes gotta get over it. But like i said i have the income to just blow that kind of money on stuff i want to have. I wanted a 5970 at the time, i wanted eyefinity. More VRAM for higher resolutions. Couldnt get my hands on a Toxic or ARES at the time so i went with the next best thing for a 5970. Dont get mad just cause its not a choice you would have made. Im happy with it and i personally dont see any issues with my card.

Think you guys are being a tad Nvidia sided here.

The 5970 is generally faster in resolution 1080P and below, without a doubt. There can be micro stutter and poor scaling for CF in "certain" games, but the 5970 is overall faster, plenty of reviews to google to confirm this.

In higher resolutions the 5970 2GB version struggles due to ram limitations (its really 1GB mirrored so to speak not 2GB usable). The GTX580 offers more consistent frame rates.

Resolution features heavily in this comparison.

Well i learned something new today , even if it is mirrored it seems to do alot better than my buddies regular 5970 and both having eyefinity set ups and aside from actually testing it against a 580 my card plays every game i have at max settings in eyefinity 50+fps which completely fine for me

In overall gaming the GTX580 wins because no every game allows for crossfire/sli scaling.(even though most those games will not need a card of that matter to play it)

if you later on want 2x580s then it will be way faster.

Crossfire is great, I own it, but really looking back it had a lot of headaches involved with owning it.

I always recommend getting the newest hardware, and the 5970 is outdated, while it may perform good it is outdated and over priced at that.
