E2140 Overclock

Thread Starter
Hi, i'll make it short.

System Specs:
Processor: E2140 1.6ghz dual-core (stock cooler)
Motherboard: ASUS P5GC-MX1333
RAM: 2x 1GB (667mhz)

Q.1: My mobo shows it can raise the FSB from 200 to 450, so it must be a good overclocker. Raising how much FSB will be safe? I myself am thinking about making it reach 2.4ghz, is that fine/stable/safe?

Q.2: How much processor voltage should i increase per 10FSB raise?

Q.3: My current idle temps are Low 35 High 40. So its fine, after overclocking, it might increase, till what temperature will it be safe?

Q.4: My mobo bios supports raising the fsb of ram & gpu also, but i don't wanna raise them, just the cpu, will that be fine overall?

Q.5: Does raising the RAM fsb increase performance? Cause then i might consider that too.

Please answer ASAP.

1. all cpus are differnt
2. not sure.. just have to try, again each CPU is differnt just stay below 1.5v ( from what i know verify that with another post (: )
3. not sure.. think its under 70.
4. not 2 sure. but u should be our to raise your cpu FBS/ghz without ocing anything elese.
5. not 100% sure. think it just increases stability.

(:

would really help if you had a arftermarket cooler.
welcome to OCN
if you goto user CP -> add system ( in left bar ) and fill out your computers details itll help (:

Ok, i just raised the FSB to 240 without raising the core volt, my clock speed has reached 1.9__ and temps are pretty much the same, is this normal? Shouln't i have had to increase the core volt? Anyways, should i further increase it without raising the core volt?

My current volt = 1.256v

I believe I used to have my E2140 at 3GHz using stock cooling. Just keep going up and make sure your temps don't get too high.

You don't HAVE to increase voltages to overclock, at 1.9 it might be perfectly stable at stock voltages. I ran my Q6600 at 3GHz (stock clock of a Q6600 is 2.4GHz) using stock voltages and it was perfectly stable, but I needed more voltage to get up to 3.6GHz on it.

My current volt = 1.256v
leave the volts as is.. see if u can get into windows.
if you can try run a program called Prime95. 20min. cheak the temps.. if their alright you can leave prime95 running for about 4 - 6 hours
to see if its stable.

Prime95 = stresses your cpu. so you can cheak if your oc is stable. (:

if it isnt stable. bump the core volts up to like 1.3v and try again.

@Redmist Thats all fine, just tell me if i have to increase the core volt or not? And if i keep increasing the FSB without raising the core volt, would that cause any problem? Or i can try that and if the PC becomes unstable, i'll just go back to the bios & increase the core volt.

increaseing the FBS and not the volts can cause your PC to become unstable (:

ill try go to like 2.2 - 2.4ghz and cheak the temps. try get that stable ( increasing the volts )
but make sure your temps dont go to high

Ok well, i spent quite alot of time trying different fsbs, but only to my disappointment, it seems my mobo only supports fsb upto 250, after that it gives errors, and it doesn't even let me change the core volt as i thought it would... so basically it is not a good overclocking mobo after all, but still, i'm now using it at 250 fsb (with default core volt), it stays at 1.5ghz idle & reaches 2.0ghz while in action, i ran different tests (passmark performance test, OCCT, etc) & different games, and its stable, and there is a noticeable performance difference too, probably due to the higher fsb & not the higher clock speed, my windows 7 rating has bumped from 4.4 to 5.1, i can now run gta iv fine on lower settings, previously it lagged like hell, so overall it is still a good overclock, thank you all very much.
