uhmm no dual bios switch and no backplate on new r6970 msi - Page 2

Weird... a 6970 w/ no back plate and bios switch? I would return the GPU and re-purchase from another lender. The side of the card definitely look like a reference model though...

Also it's false advertising if they're selling it with a dual bios feature and doesn't have the switch on the card.

Could this be the revised PCB they've had in the works? 6950 PCB = 6970 PCB in essence.

That doesn't seem right. All reference versions come with a backplate and the switch. Only the 6950 1GB doesn't have backplate but that one is non-ref only. Send it back and get a proper one. Good luck.

Why would it be bad? They didn't just make a special bad one for you now did they?

Did you install it yet? Does it show up as having 1536 shaders? If so then yea it is a 6970. And if that's the case, then it's probably a new pcb, the one we're all dreading. Ergo, 6950 pcb=6970 pcb.

AMD already said they were redesigning the pcb, and in turn removing the bios unlocking... whether that meant removing the switch, I dunno. However, the design can change, and it's not written in stone that it will forever be like the original pcb we love.

I'm willing to bet thats what happened, they probably revised the PCB because they were loosing money. Unfortunately all good things must come to and end. Also by removing the backplate and switch that would save some cash on their part as well.

Buy the HIS for 260 at Amazon. They have no penalty returns in case you get the lame pcb.
