Logitech x530 5.1 surround sound

Thread Starter
So I just got a set of x530s, great speakers, but 1 problem.
the rear left and right speakers are really quite, and kind of echo.

im using the onboard audio, and it has all the right connections.
Realtek AC'97 (ALC850)
when i do the speaker config, and click each speaker to test them, they all sound fine.
but when i play a song, or a game, the rear speakers are quiet like i stated above.

Ive gone into the sound options and turned all the levels up to max, and still no avail.

I'm pretty stumped... anyone know whats up?

If when you do the speaker test all sound fine, it means the speakers are working well.

It seems like a driver or soundcard issue. When in music/games, does the center speaker work? If not, then somehow the soundcard switches to "stereo" mode thus rear and center speakers are muted.

1. Connected wrong
2. soundcard not supporting 5.1
3. driver
5. soundcard issue.

Songs generally are stereo if im not mistaken and games you have to select a 5.1 speaker setup for it to work, but from my experience most 5.1 audio I hear, the rear speakers are not particularly loud, and I think its designed that way...

Actually getting a sound card might help you. On board isn't good, even for X530s. Generally though, the rear speakers on the X530 are quieter than the front ones though. I think they're designed to simply give you background sound as opposed to making you feel completely surrounded. I notice in movies, the rear speakers usually play some soft music while the front speakers play voice parts and main music more.
