Im not sure if OP is concerned for heat in his lan box, but thats usually what comes to mind with SFF cases.
Hi there TheReceiver,

I agree that the Phenom II unlocked (if it is able to) will be greater than the 80W but also the i3 overclocked to 4.5Ghz must use more than 73W.

To All these people saying an i3/i5 (dual core w/hyperthreading) isn't enough.. I WILL say that You have NO CLUE what You are talking about...Get off YOUR EGO's--End of Story.

If You Owned one and Your tuning Skills are "Good" You Would be singing a Different Story.
There's enough article and threads floating around the internet that show that dualies are always behind quads.

Maybe you should try reading ey?

dualies vs. quads of the same architecture and clock speed will always lose

i wouldn't say that dualies are always behind quads

here's a cherry picked benchmark:

Antuk15...

Maybe You should do the reading instead or better yet get some experience with said products before spewing your crap..Just a thought.

Yes in Some cases a "True" Quad does have an advantage in "Certain" games or situations... NO one is arguing that fact.

The OP is asking if an i3 is enough for todays games and YES it is especially when overclocked to 4.0ghz+.

So what if the i3 is a Dual core.. it does have hyper-threading which does get used in "games" that can use it.

You DO NOT need a True Quad or Six Core for Todays Games Period and is only justified and or needed based on wants and needs.

This whole thread is ABOUT the OP's question.. the answer is Yes and i3 550 @4.5ghz will be more than enough for todays games.

As far as You Antuk15... Take Your "Fan Boy EGO" crap some where else.. Just about every thread with Your posts are all the same. And for the love of all that is Holy grow the hell Up.

I apologize to the Op for this derailment and Also to the whole of OCN for this "Stupid" bickering... Since I have Joined OCN this kinda crap has shown up More and More.. It gets tiring and Highly Annoying.

This is a Community to Help fellow OCN Members and even non members that view these pages. It is not a Place to Be little anyone or talk down to someone.. This is Not a Place to Force Brands.

This is a Place to Help and guide and if I had a ban Hammer there would be ALOT of cleanup work.

Oh but of course >.<

Even though we dont have numbers here, which do you think will have better power efficiency with the OC/Unlock as well as heat, since heat is also a question here.

I like the Athlon II's they are great budget performers and I will recommend them to anyone, but in this case I think I would choose the i3

Get off your high horse. Duals aren't the best anymore, but they are more than "ok" for gaming. (especially one clocked at 4.5GHz)
