I'll go with the Asus motherboard, but I still need some more opinions on ram. Any specific tech reasons for the choices?

the only reason i recommend the g.skills is because i have owned numerous sets from ddr2 400 up to ddr3 1333 and they all ran wonderfully and OC'd well. never had a stick doa either. i've heard good things about patriot, team, mushkin, and corsair also.

Rabbit was referring to the motherboard you own, not the one you suggested.

Im not sure about OCZ ram, haven't heard much about it. the fact that it has Fatal1ty on it would be enough for me to walk away. try one of these.

I've had ocz before and it was great. The low timings on the ocz is why I linked it. How much of a performance difference would there be?

with those timings there would be a significant difference in performance. for the price it probably wouldn't hurt to try em out. if they work then you have some ram with some nice timings. if they don't then you can still probably pull 9-9-9-24 out of them

The TA870+ is actually a decent mobo for VRMs. Biostar VRMs have become quite solid/top notch with recent mobos. I still do, however, recommend adding mosfet heatsinks for overclocking any 125W TDP processors
