[CNN] Publishers Greet iPad Plan with Icy Silence

Apple's take-it-or-leave-it approach: It wants 30% of all sales generated through its platform, and it alone will have customers' names and contact information unless buyers opt in to share that data with content creators......

......The utter silence from the magazine industry's big players about Apple's papal bull on subscriptions stands in stark contrast to their vocal enthusiasm about tablets......

.....Apple's (APPL) press release was noticeably absent of any launch partners, a point a company spokeswoman declined to comment on. Its release also struck a defensive tone, with a quote from CEO Steve Jobs that began: "Our philosophy is simple."......

.....Earlier this month, the company spooked e-reader makers when it refused to greenlight Sony's Reader app. Sony's sin: It routed users who wished to buy books through a Web app, which cut Apple out of the revenue stream.....

....From Rhapsody ""Our philosophy is simple too -- an Apple-imposed arrangement that requires us to pay 30 percent of our revenue to Apple ... is economically untenable," the company said. "We will be collaborating with our market peers in determining an appropriate legal and business response to this latest development."

Apple is very, VERY quickly going from the hipster cool device to "The Man". I just wish the hipster douchebags understood this.

Apple's policy doesn't surprise me one bit. What does surprise me is that Rhapsody, Amazon, Sony, Time, SI, etc. are refusing to play the game any longer. They're finally realizing that Apple is not the "end-all be-all" of electronic devices and that business is better in a non-proprietary ecosystem.

Not quite.

The consumers are starting to realize that they're blindly following a brand instead of making logical decisions. Android blowing ahead in market share is a good example.

Because of this, these companies have realized that Apple's vice-grip is slowly loosening.

For complete irony: If this helps kill Apple's steam and breaks the sheeple away from them then I would love to see Steve Job's receive an award for this idea. It will be the best thing he's done in a long time. /sarcasm
