Amd max, i think i understand basically what your saying. In short, if im just monitoring one computer i can just google it and download any old software, but to monitor multiple ones id have to download on all of them? I dont understand what your saying about the lan tho? Are you saying that it wont monitor anything thats on wifi or something? aka other computers?
And i have no idea what snmp is so i have no clue, My router is the one by vizio if that helps at all?
No I was just saying that the ones you download to the computer only monitor what comes in and out of the network interface card no matter where its going... so if something say a file is going to another computer on the LAN or Wireless then it still gets counted on the bandwidth meter. that causes a misreading in the bandwidth meter because it didn't go to the internet or download anything via your ISP thus rendering your meter useless.
But if its just one computer and its connected to the modem directly or one computer on a router then you can use it...
A good solution in part of this is to buy a cheap router that supports ddwrt or tomato or someother 3rd party firmware load it to the router and it monitors all trafic via the Wide area network port.
