Antec HCP1200 or Wait for Seasonic X-1200

Thread Starter
My rig is currenlty running on a Corsair HX1000 and am looking to replace it with an equally strong or greater PSU however shorter (depth wise) than 200mm.

The cosair AX1200 would have been a no brainer but the depth is similar to the HX1000. So back to square one...

I am in a dilemma of playing the waiting game for the release of the Seasonic X-Series X-1200, supposedly Platinum certified and assuming the depth is shorter than 200mm, or plunge in by picking up the Antec HCP-1200.

Any opinions are appreciated ...Obviously the price is nonessential

Thanks in the advance

Right now, the way it looks is the Seasonic X-1200 isn't going to be out for at least another 2 months.
There is still no 80+ testing of the unit even.

Just get the Antec HCP-1200 and call it a day.

I am upgrading to either 2x 580s, 590 or 6990 (releasing very soon). A quad SLI or Crossfire is also a possibility in the near future so might as well get a PSU that can handle such load

Even if I barely reached the 800W - 900W limit, it is always better to have a little leg room. Doing so will help keep the PSU cooler and quieter.

Yeah, it makes more sense buying the HCP-1200... I initially hesitated cause of the rumoured platinum rating on the Seasonic upcoming X-Series and being fully-modular makes it easier to sleeve without voiding the warranty.

Thanks Tator Tot!

I wouldn't worry about the platinum cert; the efficiency gains are not huge.

Antec also has more protections in place with OCP over the 12v rails, a long with better soldering and build quality overall. Not that much better in terms of build quality; but it is notable none the less.

Just go for the HCP-1200, even if the Seasonic X-1200 turns out to be better, the difference will be negligible.

I've been waiting for large power SeaSonic forever. I think they are fantasies, or they will be to me until I see them on a shelf. However my opinion is that SeaSonic is the de facto of power supplies. I've installed well over 300 of them with no failures (knock on wood). Some of my SeaSonics have been running under heavy load for 6 years plus.

Dual 580s will run on a good 750W or 850W. The GTX590 and HD6990 don't exist yet, so we can't make recommendations; but assuming you're going to get something before we even know much about it is silly.
