Im not 100% sure, but I do believe it affects both winamp and the actual files.

I am not sure about the actual information for the files, but for the album art an easy way to check is to just open Windows Explorer and navigate to your song files and check of the icon for the file is the album art.

If it is just a generic Windows sound file icon then the changes are only effecting Winamp, and if it is the album art then it is embedded into the song file and will reflect those changes no matter where you access the file.

I just use MusicBrainz Picard with the Album Art add-on.
It will also rename your files and place them sub-folders based on Artist and Album.
Definitely a program I couldn't live without!

All info and download can be found here.

Iirc the get info thing changes your file info in addition to in winamp but the album art doesn't.
99% sure the other info changes the file info in Windows though.

Personally I prefer Winamp and I've been using it for years but I bookmarked your thread as well, I wanna check it out later.

And fwiw Songbird by Mozilla is a decent alternative to itunes if you don't want an Apple product or don't like their EULA. It's damn near identical though it seemed to have freezing issues for me.
