6950 1GB vs 2GB Help.

Thread Starter
So i want to buy a 6950 and im wondering it its really worth it to go with the 2GB version? I play at 1980x1020. Probably wont ever go higher or dual monitor it, so is the 2GB version really worth it? Because 2GB on newegg is $299-320, 1GB is $239-259, a big difference for me as i am a student.

If i do go with the 1GB version, i heard many rumors that you can not unlock the 1GB version in to 6970, could someone confirm that, because if that is so, id rather pay the bit more money and get a "6970" 2GB version, then 1GB.

Thank you, much appreciated for future help.

Only the 2Gb version unlocks. For that reason alone I'd get the 2Gb version.

I am pretty sure you can have the possibility of unlocking to a 6970 even if it still the 1GB 6950.

Edit nevermind wrong

Nice. Dammit I got mine for 290 and that was 20 off back then. It's a big improvement if you use massive screen resolution. Psst time for a 3rd monitor. The 68xxx would choke playing games in eyefinity where you won't.

Thank you smile.gif And i see, well hopefully this card will be able to run stalker at playable rates on most things maxed. With my 6850, with everything on high(not very high) and 2xAA with 8xAF it runs at 22-26 fps. When i lower it to medium with no AA, somehow it still runs around 25-30. But chokes on massive scenes, and im not willing to lower it any lower since the whole point of getting the Stalker series on steam when it was on sale in a bundle, is to finally be able and see what people always talked about of how good the atmosphere felt and the environment looked. I had a 5670, and while it was an okay card for most games that i play(they are not to graphic demanding) But i could never really play the eye candy games. I hope no with this 6950 unlocked to 6970, ill be able to finally see all the eye candy biggrin.gif

Sorry, got a bit over excited there. Thank you all guys for helping.
