6950 1GB vs 2GB Help. - Page 2

I heard a revision of the 6950 is came out that will not allow us to flash the card into a 6970. They said it shipped out at the end of January. Any reports of this? If so, which reference manufacturer do you think I should go with and hope that the card will still flash into a 6970?

They're out and it's all a matter of old stock vs new stock. Buy from a place where its easy to return/exchange like Microcenter or Amazon.

Thanks. I guess I should have bought the card a long time ago, but then again I just got my $$$ on the 11th this month. The closest microcenter is a few hour drive from my place and I cant drive. Do you know if all of the cards got the revision or only manufacturers like HIS and such?

As I understand it, AMD officially redesigned the reference board, so it would/should change for all makes that use the reference board/kit. I know Tigerdirect has rev2 MSI cards and XFX is shipping rev2 cards.

ek is already selling rev2 waterblocks. If I remember correctly, ek was in pre-production on the rev2 blocka week after AMD's announcement.

Well on newegg, there are reviews dating to 2 days ago, of people receiving their XFX cards and flashing them to 6970. But, XFX and ASUS are the only brands on newegg that have such new reviews, all the other brands, the last time you see someone mentioning a flash to 6970 is 2-3 weeks ago. That is why i went with the XFX, for the lifetime warranty and that people who received their cards 2 days ago were able to flash.

By the way, where are you from? I go to USF and I'm about to order a Sapphire 2GB 6950 for $280 shipped.

Yes this is true but at the moment you might get lucky. I have seen 3 people in the last 2 weeks tho get Reference 6950s that had NO dual bios or back plates on them.

Also these cards that didnt have dual bios or the backplates were all MSI reference versions.
