Why do MMO's cost money to play? - Page 3

Did I say that I didn't have a job? No. I said that I didn't have steady income. Which means some months I may make nothing and others I may make thousands. That is just the reality of freelance graphic design work. I take jobs as they come and I am never guaranteed a weekly paycheck like most 9 to 5 jobs. It just makes it really hard to manage my money when I don't know how much or when I will be getting it.

I know that you can buy more than 1 month at a time but I never really like to because sometimes I just don't feel like playing it so I will play a different game, then get bored of the other game and come back... so paying for that time I am not playing is kind of throwing my money away. Like right now for instance I haven't played in about a month but I still have time ticking away because I lost interest about half way through my 2 month prepaid game time.

uh lol why do games cost to play? it's just the way it is. 10 bucks or so a month isn't much, and it gives you full experience as compare to your own server which won't have no more than 3 people or so playing. Loneliness is the worst thing especially in MMO's =)

I do graphic design too. Haven't had a single job this entire month, feels bad man. Had to sell my Xeon, my Maximus III GENE, return 2 cases and sell my H50. Now I have to settle with this 555 BE and a Foxconn A88GM motherboard and hope things pick up in the next week or so, or I'll have to get a job stockin' shelves.

Yeah I am grateful that I can do something I consider fun and get paid for it... just sometimes it is so frustrating trying to balance finances without some kind of scheduled money flow. (at least for me anyway)

All MMO's are a rip off. They could charge 5 dollars and still cover all the costs and profit.

And the patches are a lie!

Electricity and IT costs to upkeep the server. The OS is probably the cheapest component of a server.

Still MMO's are about generating revenue. For-profit companies don't make games to lose money.
