Black Widow vs G510 vs others. - Page 2

From G110 to G510, I only enjoy the functionality.
I don't like the mushy feeling.
After I tried the four arrow keys on Black Widow box, I love the tactile response.
But blue switch is too loud in my small house rolleyes.gif
So still waiting 7G with backlit biggrin.gif

there you go.

Reading now.

I think it's funny that people write FTW at the end of their post, and consider the thread closed.

Anyway, I can see why someone would want mechanical - longer life, but the "better" tactile feel of a keyboard is subjective, so no one can really predict how someone else will like it. That said, I have never had a keyboard die on me, rubber dome or otherwise, so the longer life has been (so far) unimportant to me. Maybe I would have bought a different keyboard had my friend not given me the G510, but he *gave* it to me, so I am happy to have it

As far as the noise of mechanical keyboards, I have found this -- I don't know if it is true or not, but it makes sense
Quote:
the key may be capable of travelling 4 mm before hitting the bottom of the keywell, but the keystroke is generated after 2 mm. This means that as a touch typist, you need not press keys fully down, reducing the constant jarring action on your fingertips and unnecessary muscle action. In addition, keys often offer increasing resistance after the keystroke is generated, encouraging you to release and move on to the next keystroke. Finally, keys snap back to ready position quicker, allowing for faster typing speeds.

Many people who are used to Membrane Keyboards will press the keys down too far on a Mechanical Keyswitch, 'bottoming out' on every keystroke, resulting in a loud clack in addition to the light click of the keyswitch which is generated half-way through the key travel distance. Once a user learns to not press the keys completely down with every keystroke, the level of noise generated when typing on a mechanical keyswitch keyboard is substantially reduced.

Well, if that is the case with Black Widow, just people pressing keys too hard, then that can be corrected. I remember myself going from old IBM or Microsoft keyboards for 386/486 computers... Pentium I to the 'advanced' keyboard. I couldn't press the keys normally. It seemed stupid to me.

Anyway, if if pressed correctly Black Widow is quiet, then it's okay with me probably. And I just found out, that it has media keys, just with Fn. Which means, it's got about everything I need. Backlighting could be more configurable though.

I recently got a black widow and yes, it is quite loud. I find the keys are quite closely spaced which makes it a bit tricky. It may just be a case of me needing to get used to it though. The font they used on the keys also takes some getting used to, I hardly look at the keyboard but because its layout is so different from my old one I do have to glance down every now and then to get my bearings as it were.

Anyway, it's a good keyboard but personally I was happier with the Lycosa I had before it, and the logitech g15 before that. I'm hoping that it's just a case of getting used to it and before long I'll fall in love with it.

My toy can type the same letters that your mechanism can. Remember that this is all opinion. I do wish that the G510 was just a bit less "squishy" though, and I might go with a mechanical keyboard in the future.
@What Is X thanks for the link, I followed some links in that page and found something useful that I never knew existed -- USB->Ethernet adapters for long runs.
