thanx for ur suggestions i will run the intel burn test @ 3.6.....btw i also booted into windows with 3.8ghz and cpuz was showing that my core voltage was 1.45 though the temps were getting scary(need a better cooler) so gone back again to 3.6....my 3.4ghz is rock stable......really man great chip
today i ran 3D mark vantage @ 3.6Ghz nd my CPU score was 29K+...my eyes just popped 0_0

but i do want to know at these speeds will it bottleneck a 580 or the upcoming 590 or a 6990? since i am having different opinions some r saying YES nd someone NO...

Seriously I believe our processor is good. And bottlenecks are there forever but it depends. It will be so obvious if you use a Dual Core processor but we have a good enough processor. Don't worry on getting the best hardware out there as long as you know it supports your motherboard because you will still see huge changes. I've asked many times if I can get a 6950 or 6870 for my current setup since I'm going from a 8600GT. And they said yes huge.

Just use a reliable power supply and true rated.

Hope it helped.

The 775 is old technology, So I would think it would bottle neck your system but, with a 775 system you have a few bottlenecks going for ya.

But not to say the 775 is junk. I run Black Ops, MW2, BFBC2 all with really high settings on my system with no issue. Maybe later this year with BF3 I may need to move my 5850 to an i5 system.

Nothing wrong with getting a 580, just wont get AS MUCH benefit as using it with a i3-i5 system.

Then eventually when you upgrade to i5 you will have a rocking system.

Not everyone can afford to drop 1500 bucks on a new system every year.

It will bottleneck, BUT there is a degree of it.
Bottleneck exist always as gpus are getting really faster than cpus.
Now when u increase ur resolution bottleneck decreases. When the game is gpu bound bottleneck decreases.
These days really slow quad cores and most dual ones that bottleneck. Myself included i tried a 4850 on pentium D 915 (prescot) and let me tell you the performance actually dropped compare to 8400gs!!! (1024x768).
With my new dual core and 460, there is bottleneck and sometimes it makes me sad the fact that a 460 can get 40-50 fps on 1920x1080 res. maxxed while i get a measly 24 fps on 1024x768. So you see i am killing my card, after badcompany 2 i uninstalled it and gave it back to my friend. Still the game was fluid and playable.
My point is: your bottleneck will not be as severe and it will not affect your gameplay. Look at it this way sandybridge gets 100fps u get 80-90...

TRUE man...

but i am thinking to upgrade my rig BUT i can upgrade only 1 (short on $$)
either motherboard,CPU (asus P67 maximus 4 xtreme ROG nd 2600K)
OR
the upcoming gtx 590 .....want to enjoy crysis 2 @ maximum

but again if i get gpu will my Q6600 can cope up with it?....

nd if i get the cpu nd MB...i will not see any huge changes with my current GPU....dats for sure

so i am confused...

Id say go with the GPU first where you want to be gaming. Like I said my 5850 holds it own with my Quad. by the time you can afford a new MOBo/CPU the price will have dropped. SO its WIN/WIN.

BTW, I dont think you "a" key is working

The gtx 590 (mostly dual gpu-ed cards) are overrated. They are hot, expensive, power consuming, and to top that off they are lower-clocked versions of whatever they are.
The only reason i see them useful is someone without a 2nd pci-e slot and cant sli. Or limited to sli and want 4gpus.
I suggest waiting for the release of crysis 2 and look for benchies. Maybe even current hardware cannot max it on dx11 .

It sounds like you need to put more voltage on the cpu to stop the BSOD, either that or for the northbridge voltage needs to be up'd.

As for upgrading get a GPU first, the q6600 is still perfectly fine for gaming.

Also, the max you should run your q6600 in a "safe" range is 1.55v. Personally I've had my q6600 running @ 1.65v for the past 2 years with no issues. Now mind you my temps never get any higher then 75c on max load either, so as long as your temps are under control I'd think it would be ok.

That is what I meant. There will be a bottleneck of course but not so bad at all. I also meant if you have a 6870 on a Q6600 and on a i5 or i7 of course the i5 and i7 will have better performance but you can deal with that later on. A video card upgrade is important and you can still use that system instead of buying a new motherboard, ram and processor with a normal video card.

I also agree the high end Nvidia's are really hot, expensive and consumes really high electricity. You should have a good cooling system to have good temps and also if you'll overclock.

With one expensive Nvidia card you can go for a dual 6850/6870/6950 in the future. But lets talk about now.

Think budget wise and smart upgrade. I use a Nvidia card now. I'm a fan of both sides. But I would go for a 6870/6950 because of the price per performance you are getting.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ds,2849-9.html

I hope this helps.

One more thing that helped me from BSoD.

Make sure your RAM timings are not set to auto. I would recommend you setting it manually to its default timing like what you see on the sticker of the RAM's. I did it and it helped because Auto make it change over time with your overclocking.
