Apple is selling more portable computers than any other manufacturer.
Including the iPad, Apple sold 17.2 per cent of mobile computers worldwide in the October-December quarter, according to a report published by research group DisplaySearch. That's even more than Hewlett-Packard, the world's top PC maker.
Apple has sold nearly 15 million iPads in its first nine months on sale, including 7.3 million in the most recent quarter alone. Without the iPad, Apple is the world's eighth-ranking PC manufacturer.

HP ranks second when it comes to mobile computers, a category that includes laptops, tablet computers and netbooks. Acer, Dell and Toshiba round out the top five.

So every phone or microwave is a computer too?

I think Texas Instruments should be included in the mobile computer market; by that sweeping definition.

Toasters?
Digital landline phones? Yes.

Microwave with a digital display, input and clock that can dynamically change power?

Yes. Those are computers.

I haven't seen many computerized toaster, but yeah I'm sure someone has made one.

Wow, nice. Fifteen million iPads is a lot, and a good incentive for developers. Last I heard Apple's target for this year is to sell forty million iPads

seeing as apple is the only maker of computers that use ISO ... this is not suprising. Appale sells more laptops than any one other manufacturer perhaps but apple only has 17% of the mobile computer market ... meaning windows and some android devices make up the remaining 83% ............. 83 much > 17

What they failed to mention is Microsoft based systems make up 80% of the portable computers sold.

You people are dumb.
so what? old computers like the ENIAC didn't have any of those things. does that make it a computer? no. so why should the ipad be a computer? just because it has a calculator app doesn't mean its a computer.

iPad is a computer. A computer is just a machine that can be programmed. Such machines require memory.

That chip inside your car that regulates gas combustion in your engine is a computer. A microwave oven is a type of computer. Modern digital cameras are computers also.

Desktops and laptops are just a type of computer.

Then this whole thing about Apple leading the mobile computer market may very well be BS. A car is mobile and, according to you, has "a computer". How are cars, then, not included in this statistic? Why aren't MP3 players included? Why aren't digital cameras included? Why aren't microwaves included?

Need I go on?
