http://www.theage.com.au/technology/technology-news/apple-leads-the-mobile-computer-market-report-20110217-1ax6g.htmlApple is selling more portable computers than any other manufacturer.
Including the iPad, Apple sold 17.2 per cent of mobile computers worldwide in the October-December quarter, according to a report published by research group DisplaySearch. That's even more than Hewlett-Packard, the world's top PC maker.
Apple has sold nearly 15 million iPads in its first nine months on sale, including 7.3 million in the most recent quarter alone. Without the iPad, Apple is the world's eighth-ranking PC manufacturer.
HP ranks second when it comes to mobile computers, a category that includes laptops, tablet computers and netbooks. Acer, Dell and Toshiba round out the top five.
A computer, by definition, is a machine that takes input, manipulates it, and provides an output. The iPad does that.Originally Posted by gbrilliantq;12417088
Even though the iPad is not a mobile computer...
So every phone or microwave is a computer too?Originally Posted by ImmortalKenny;12417155

I think Texas Instruments should be included in the mobile computer market; by that sweeping definition.Originally Posted by ImmortalKenny;12417155

Digital landline phones? Yes.Originally Posted by gbrilliantq;12417203

yea man, we can count that. i have one of those mobile blenders too that i can take out of my pocket and add numbers together.Originally Posted by beers;12453622
Hey my blender has a digital interface.
Can we count that, too?
so what? old computers like the ENIAC didn't have any of those things. does that make it a computer? no. so why should the ipad be a computer? just because it has a calculator app doesn't mean its a computer.Originally Posted by ZainyAntics;12458986
How is the iPad NOT a computer? It has a CPU, RAM, HDD, etc..
You people are dumb.
iPad is a computer. A computer is just a machine that can be programmed. Such machines require memory.Originally Posted by LOL_Wut_Axel;12453556
Except that the iPad IS NOT a computer.
So my old iPod nano 2G is a computer, too? Awesome! Guess my Zune 120 is, too.Originally Posted by ZainyAntics;12458986

Then this whole thing about Apple leading the mobile computer market may very well be BS. A car is mobile and, according to you, has "a computer". How are cars, then, not included in this statistic? Why aren't MP3 players included? Why aren't digital cameras included? Why aren't microwaves included?Originally Posted by Riou;12459603

That chip inside your car that regulates gas combustion in your engine is a computer. A microwave oven is a type of computer. Modern digital cameras are computers also.
Desktops and laptops are just a type of computer.
