Any Mecha games for the pc - Page 2

sigh... I really would like to see a quality mechwarrior sim... there was one in production, was going to be mechwarrior 5, than it was rebranded mechwarrior, than it was cancelled a couple months back... due to harmony gold sueing the brand again for using mecha designs without consent...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MechWarrior_(reboot)

ala... the marauder is a zentran/zentradi officers battle pod, phoenix is a vf-104... the destroids (non transformable) UN mecha, were the gladiator/warhammer so on and so forth...

Earth Siege was a decent series, right up there with mechwarrior, just without a cannon/story/world I care about...

Others mentioned front mission, which is a joke... Front Mission 3 was the last console FM, and FM-Zero, the last game in the series, not sure wth fme ooozed from, or the square soft need to copy the xbox mechwarrior 3rd person twitch games... really stupid idea...

Steel Battalions is pure win, but again, very limited exploration of the IP, especially in the PC market... nice work Capcom... way to drop the ball.

Ahh, there is a new Front Mission being made in Japan, it is sorta like Valkyria Chronicles wwi, wwII, style asian invasion of United States... may be slated for PC, could be worth looking for... although it could of just as easily been a trailer for one of the live action movies they dropped...

so wanted to edit /\\___ this and its not a new Front Mission, its a new Steel Battalions: Heavy Armor... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_B...n:_Heavy_Armor not a wwii respin, but a post apoc mechanical/steam punk tank/vt sim for the 360.

quick answer... there is nothing...

Best guess?

High development cost, not as much interest in the niche market for the mainstream... in Japan, were mecha are as common as McDonalds you are going to see some mech style games... shogo, front mission series, armored core... the list goes on and on... where-as in the states/europe we have the mechwarrior franchise from FASA/Hasbro, the thing is, like Transformers the mech themselves were simply copied or just ripped off their asian counterparts... and as such, mechwarrior has (in every game ever released) had legal troubles with certain mech designs being used... different artist, different distribution rights...

Its hard to imagine a "mechwarrior" game outside of the "clans" that dont have the emblematic Warhammer on the cover... which is, a destroid from Robotech/Macross...

Its not just mech games that have suffered from this, look at the flight simulator market... its become quite void except for a couple EU and RU development teams... much of which are coming from the military sector and a sorta renaissance for digital systems within the military structure, especially in the RU block. Loc-On Modern air combat, has a retooled version being used as the trainer for the SU-27 by the Soviet military.

Games like Steel Battalion are almost totally import only, due to being a Japanese sku, for an asian market.

I "think" mech games do have a market, but alas, the financial climate in the video games industry right now has a lot of the "chase success" syndrome going about, and that means more sequels and less new IP and risk taking. Its not a mech game for'se but Battlefield 2142 had a mech in it, probably making one of the most modern "mech" vehicles we could use in a game that people are playing.

Games like World of Tanks are a step in the right direction, demonstrating that there is a market for a more "thought out" FPS/Sim experience that does not rely on twitch reflexes.

Its funny though, depending on how you look at it, do you want a twitch Asian mecha game, or the more cumbersome plodding mecha game more common in the west?

Hang on for Planetside Next, it should have some armor/mech style combat in it as well, if its well received, there could be a mech game in the cards for PC.
