crossfire 5850 P55 UD3R 16x 4x ???

This P55 UD3R says it does 16x on one pcie 2.0 slot and the 4x on the other slot..

which is return tells me this is a junk board for crossfire,
consequently it also tells there's some sort of marketing scheme as well,

i tested crossfire 3 times then i forgot about it because the pay off could never me 80% plus

ie if i bought one 5850 card that does 60 fps in lets say battlefield when i add a second card 120 fps is what we really want because we just paid double..

at 80% ish were looking oh 100fps or so

this is never the case in my testing..

i added second gpu dual 4870x2 and i seen a decrease in 8 out of ten games the other 2 games had a 10 fps increase ..hawx wow..not good..

anyway i just want to be sure my field knowledge is leading me correctly here,

to crossfire 2 5850's on this board they actually both run together at 4x

which you will receive, a lower fps, because 8x combined,
still cant compete with 1 16x slot..

is this correct information? thanks

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3162#sp

i hear people saying, oh add a 5770, and you wont see a decrease, because the card is a lower rank card, ie it out puts less, so you loose less, and it runs at 85%

which sounds like crap to me, because 4x, and 4x, dosent equal, 1 card at 16x full speed..

if you will run a cf 5850 on ud3r (that rly sux cos of that no 8x/8x mode.... most of p55 boards sux cos of that :S) you will have a 16x for first and 4x for 2nd. but for present single gpu cards 4x is starting to be to little. my vote is to sell them and buy 6990 when it will come out finaly. you have no other option if you want to stay with that board. you could also sell it and buy ud4 or asus p7p55 pro.

also you cannot run 5850 and 5770 in crossfire... cf is flexy but not that much.

not sure about whta increase you are talking about.
your rig is very ok to run cf on it but just that board sux. it is best to not run anything above the 5850 (including 5850) on 4x and lower pci-e mode. for dual gpus is better to avoid even 8x mode and run them on 16x. you may have some serious fps drops if you will run cf on this board. like i said. change the mobo, or change the video card. your choise.

dual 4870 on a 8x 4x setup game me less frames per second

tested on crysis
bc2
bf2
2142
modern warfare
modern warfare 2
shift
grid
f1
and many other games
i talked to asus and they told me 4x channel was bottlenecking crossfire

in my case i decrease in crossfire

which was a mind blowing experience..

never ever try crossfire unless both cards can do 16x on the lane together..other wise you will see a decrease in performance

8/8x is fine, it's when you get down to 4x that problems will arise.

That 4x card is 10-20% bottlenecked by the bandwidth loss.

You aren't ever going to get 100% scaling in CF, just so you know.
And there is something seriously wrong if you got performance decreases with a 8x/4x config.
My BC2 fps went from around 45 to over 80 with everything maxed when I added a 2nd 5770, but that may have something to do with the scaling of 4870's. I have no idea.
