It will basically have an expansion slot that you slide the new piece into. Effectively going from 1 card to SLI. It is the most logical and profitable way to do business.

I 100% guarantee this.
I 100% guarantee that scenario won't happen, because it fragments the console's market tremendously and there's no guarantee on a return. A minor upgrade, like the Nintendo 64's expansion pack, maybe. Beyond anything simple like that, not gonna happen.

Sony can't afford to make a PS4 now. Not after all the money problems they've been having. Heck, it was just recently the PS3 started turning a profit.

Thats why this works. Because they can release the machine with a lower cost, and as those costs lower, years down the road they can sell that extra part for more than it cost. It makes profit on both ends, less upfront cost, and more cost down the road.

People wont have to buy it, they will essentially be limited to Medium settings as more games come out, or a lower resolution.

You can claim it wont go that way all you want, but it is coming.

Your logic for why it works is ill thought out. What you're speaking of will confuse consumers, fragment the market, and ultimately kill profits for console makers. They're not going to piecemeal console parts like that. That's silly. What you're talking about has been the norm for the PC gaming industry. It's not going to translate to consoles.

I highly doubt there's anyone in this conversation qualified to say anything is guaranteed about the next console generation other than that it is coming. Nothing more; nothing less.

10 year lifecycle.... They can easily get away with it though. They do a refresh every few years, make it look shinier or slimmer... It's like a new product to the consumer's that don't care about internals, just that it does what it says.

And why would they start a new console if the one they have current is selling just fine.

Lol, graphic settings on consoles

Dood if things went that way for consoles, it'll end up being like developing games for cellphones.

MOAR DEV TIME = MONEY = MOAR EXPENSIVE GAMES

Of course they will not say that they are making plans for a PS4. This would mean people waiting to buy a PlayStation until the fourth one is out. As per usual for a company this big (and with games that don't look better on their console), everything must be thought of in a money-earning way.

think what you will guys.

Its a marketing thing. People wont avoid a system because it can be upgraded at a later date to improve the system further. They will flock to it. Its not like people are willing to blow loads on peripherals, look at all the stuff for the wii, xbox, and ps3, move, motion plus, kinect, and all the various things like wii fit etc. Console people want to throw their money away, and this would give them another chance.

Its wouldnt be any harder to develop for games either as it would have 2 settings, 1 for unupgraded and 1 for upgraded. Look at all the PC systems that can be developed for. People would upgrade when they saw that awesome new graphics that you can get for the next hit game, and the one after that, and then after that.

Installing is as simple as sliding the cartridge into the bay that was left open, and best buy would charge $50 to do it for customers, and they will pay it.

I think you all give the general public way to much credit when it comes to things.
