C Drive to Second Drive

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I bought a 160GB hard drive recently thinking it would be enough to last me. Turns out, I was wrong. If I buy another hard drive can I extend my c drive to the new hard drive without any problems or am I better off getting another hard drive and reinstalling windows on it?

You can mount it as a folder so it extends from the C:

Just buy a larger drive and do a disk clone to it using a program like Acronis Disk Director. (My personal go-to) The program automatically expands the partition out to the end of the drive. After cloning the worst thing that could happen is you would need to reinstall the disk drivers, but this is rarely a problem and is easy to correct. Then you just use the 160GB drive for storage, backups, etc.

Another way to create more space on your drive is to move some of your programs over to another drive using Steam Mover. It is basically an interface for creating junctions. Works beautifully for when you need to save space on your system drive.

EDIT: I suggest getting an SSD for your system drive if you don't really care much to keep your OS intact. You will be amazed at the speeds. problem is, there is a significant performance hit you take if you do a drive clone straight to an SSD, so a complete reinstall is needed. I know because I did it multiple times when I first got my SSD and it never came out right.
