PSU for the future

Thread Starter
To keep this short, I'm planning on a big upgrade to S2011 along with Kepler whenever this stuff hits the market.

Is it likely that they'll require new things current PSU's don't have yet?

I'd love to invest in a unit such as the AX850, but only if it'll last me for years to come in the upgrade department.

The AX850 will cover any needs you have now or in the future, the only possibility of it not doing so is should you desire to get 3 or more of the top end graphics card.
Power requirements will only go down from here. Chip shrinks will drop power requirements, look at the GTX480/580, the 580 has more shaders than the 480, uses less power and makes less heat. Expect some more of the same over the warranty of the PSU (7 years I think in the case of the Corsair AX).

Nah, it's not really the requirements in watts I was concerned about. Won't ever be going for a double card setup anyway, let alone a tripple.

Just wondered if near-future sockets like 2011 with it's PCI-E 3.0 and new innovations might need different kinds of connections, making todays PSU's incompatible with it. But I guess the current standards are here to stay for quite some time.

you should be good with any AX series which is future proof and no problems for those long years.

PC&P is also a good brand and the nonamed brand Sparkle is also supposed to be top notch.

Power is power, there are almost always adapters for any new connections that are created. Change in any money driven market is slow, as to be profitable you do not do well alienating the majority of the user base for your product.
