High-End Video Editing/Encoding Laptop

Thread Starter
Hello all,

One of my coworkers is in need of a new video editing laptop. We both know more about desktops than laptops, so we're hoping for some recommendations for high-end performance machines that will handle:

-Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (HD footage)
-After Effects CS5
-Rest of CS5 suite...

Unfortunately we're stuck with laptops at work instead of desktops. The Graphics department uses Macs, but we're not really looking to go down that road (it's a pain for our IT department to network with Macs).

Any thoughts? I suspect that "gaming" laptops are what we need to go with.

Thanks!

EDIT: Trying to keep it under $3K

Well, I'm guessing there isn't really a budget. If that's the case i'd go and have a look at the ASUS laptops. The G73SW is probably the most powerful laptop on the market.

I would suggest the Sager NP7200. It has a i7 950 (Yes thats right, a desktop CPU in a laptop) and the GTX460m. Everything can be upgraded though.

Or you could go with one of the newer Sandy Bridge notebooks.

Sager NP8130

Sager NP8150

Sager NP8170

I would suggest you make a post in this forum: Which Laptop Should I Buy? They will be able to point you in the right direction.

If he has a high end desktop at home, you should try vnc first, as laptops clearly werent meant for this type of workload, and if you do go for a laptop that can do some editing work, it'll obviously be a desktop replacement and not something hes gonna carry around to show people all day.
