Why get a work station GPU, Any gtx460 would be fine, CPU. Get a Intel Core i7-970, CPU cooler. ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2, Motherboard - ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366, Ram - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB 1600mhz, HDs - 2 of Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB, PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V, and something like this GPU - MSI N460GTX Cyclone 768D5/OC GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB. Case - COOLER MASTER HAF 922. This build is under budget will work perfectly. Very fast plenty of harddrive space, 6core CPU. 12 gigs of ram. 2TBs HD space. Awesome build your client will be happy.

Dont listen to most of these idiots. 800 dollars on a video card that barely does the work while the CPU does most of it. Makes no sense. What your client needs to very powerful CPU. Lots of RAm. Tons of harddrive space and a decent GPU that helps a little bit.

Exactly how much freedom are you allowed in overclocking etc etc

I would be careful when falshing it as it will void the warranty i woudl imagine and then as a buisness - you will hold the cost to replace it if your customer has a problem.

That is a bit harsh to people trying to advise someone. I think the extra cost is worth it as the price also pays for Nvidia or AMD tech support.

It seems like the consensus is to roll with Intel over AMD. Without starting a flame war, Is the intel really that much better than the AMD 1100t? I always heard that for rendering, AMD was best..

I think the customer would like a full tower, which is the reason i chose the 700D.

Well which intel chip are you comparing it to? Also do not buy a geforce and flash it. Big pain, may not work, and voids your warranty. Do not do that.
Don't listen to this, Ridiculous. Spend triple on a video card for tech support on a GPU!??!?!
And yes Intel is definitely what everyone is after. I sold computers for a long time and everyone asks for intel because its what they are comfortable with. It performs the best and any software that comes out just like NVidia always performs the best with the market leader.

I'm sitting next to a 700D right now, and they're huge. Bigger than my Antec 1200. I'm surprised you didn't go with a mid tower case and that the customer needs a full tower for a work station.

$300 for a 700D is expensive. I am sure you could get away with a nice $100 mid tower like a Lian Li. I'm wondering how much profit you'll make if you build a $2190 comp in a $2200 budget. $10 profit?
