Judging from your current 60GB hard drive, you have an old fat PS3, right?
I would not call her fat, just more to love

Yes, indeed the original 60GB version.

I have a launch day 60gb PS3 I upgraded to a 500gb. If you are installing games and downloading a lot from PSN then just go with the 500gb saves you the trouble of replacing it again later. Do you have a spare external big enough to back your current drive up to swap them? Also what model PS3 are you replacing the drive in. The older FAT systems can have issues with 7200 RPM drives.

I am at work so I will have to get back to you on the specific model. All I know is that it is a 60GB version at the moment. And yes I have a large enough external to transfer the data to. Alternatively I could transfer the information to the new drive going into the system directly with a thermaltake black widow (swappable SATA HD tool that acts as an external).

I'd go for the 500GB. Not much more expensive, and a bit extra space is always useful.

320 is what I have, only in the BLUE version, the drive needs to be 5400 RPM to work properly in the PS3 from what I have heard. This may or may not be true, but I am just adhering to the sony original 60GB spec of Seagate's original drive that comes with the system at stock...which is 5400 RPM.

Naw, it doesnt matter, but 7200rpm is just slightly faster than 5200rpm

I've never heard of any PS3 having a problem with 7200rpm drives... they don't notice/care. You can even put SSD in them.

Go 500GB. Any driver will work in your PS3 really.

i'd get the 500GB and i think it's faster than 320GB
i have 320GB seagate 7200rpm, at the time it was one of the faster(est) drives but now it's just average
i want to upgrade to a faster/bigger drive but the transfer system is inferior

What I do is I put all my movies/music/photos on my PS3 external drive - makes life easier transfering movies to it from the PC, etc. And I just use the PS3 hard drive for games, saves, pshome, etc. No media.
