Asus GTX 580 clocks hangs at full speed

Thread Starter
So ive been serching the net for my issue but havnt found one thing.. My friend and i build two comutors exacly the same. But i took a Asus gtx 580 and my friend a Zotac gtx 580. First he can oc his card to 960 mhz and i to 870 mhz.. Thats no biggie. But my card hangs at 3d clocks (782 mhz) and also stutters in some games. Take Race driver grid for example. He have no issues with this game and i have tried all the drivers that works for this card and the first hour its ok, but then when i play this game booth v-sync on and off and also diffrent settings in controlpanel i get 60 to 59- 58- 60- 58 fps( or 160-130 for example with v-sync off). And this makes the game stutter.. Annoying i can say. Reformated comp, patched game( tried game with and without patch). Even tried my asus in his comp and it was smooth, but had some to 59 but hardly noticeble.. Been switching cables, taking out memorys switching places with things checking bios but nothing.. Right now my comp is locked at 782 mhz and temp is at 51 c. Only fix for booth the stutters and locked mhz is to reinstall driver but i dont want to do this several times a day.. Only time that my friend noticed stuttering and locked core clock was when he had two srceens.. Tried this also. One screen, two screens and no screen plugged in but no impact what so ever.. So if someone have any suggestions or recorgnise this would be more than super appreciated.

Edit: Always using driver sweeper, ccleaner and dpc checker gives me nothing

that, and the fact that his paragraph is terribly unorganized & sloppy

Ok, ile make the story a bit shorter then. A fresh install of the driver and everything works for a couple of hours. Then my clocks hangs in 3d mode and the stuttering starts.. Tried all drivers out there and sorry for my complicated post but as i said, serched the net and havnt found anything about this annoying problem

Well first of all, what do you mean by: "my clocks hang"? Unless you are talking about the ones on your wall, I don't really understand what you mean by that.
Second of all, is everything at stock speed? Or have you overclocked your cpu/gpu/mem? 782 is a strange overclocked frequency, since standard clock on GTX580 is 772.

Everyting is stock.. Asus cards have a factory overclock that is 10 mhz higher.. It doesnt do anything, but i have had asus before and have been satisfied with the brand.
As i said, ive serched the net and couldnt find anything about this problem.
Also, you dont know what im talking about. That means that you havnt experiansed it..
I noticed if i have two screens it goes up to 3d clocks (782 mhz stock for me) and stays there. And if i go back to one screen again it goes from 782 mhz to 405 and to 50.
But for some reason sometimes it hangs at 782 mhz and it doesnt matter if i restart the comp or close every program. The only solution is to reinstall the driver and then everything is good again until next time.

Ahh, now I understand it. All I can say is that I think it's a driver problem, have you tried installing an older driver version? And about v-sync, I am experiencing the same problem maybe. There seems to have been something about v-sync that has changed, don't know for sure if it is a driver problem. The v-sync locks itself at either 30 or 60 fps it seems, so if you get below 60, near 30, the v-sync locks itself at 30, but at my pc, it also slows things down (even for a split second), don't know for sure wether it is a driver issue or game depentent. (don't know if this applies to you maybe?)
And maybe for the stuttering, are you using some kind of temp monitoring? e.g. SpeedFan or Afterburner while gaming? either in the background/foreground? That can cause stuttering as well, since everything needs to wait untill the program received the temp data, don't realy know how it works, but for me in some games it makes a difference. Just apply the clocks, and close Afterburner down.

Good luck!

Thanx for the answer Ka.. To bad about your issues but stil good for us.
Because then it has to be a driver problem..
Hmm... But fingers crossed.. I might have sorted out my stuttering problem hopefully As i said ive reinstalled my hole system a couple of times and have been using AVG antivirus.
But now ive desided to go with Bitdefender instead. It started a system scan and found 17 threats in my other hdd ( where i have games installed and so on). And this didnt AVG found
So i fixed those problems and the stuttering was gone And now i have even better performance in Black ops, COD MW2 and Tier 1..
Wierd, but noticed stuttering with GPU-Z and HW monitor.
And stil sometimes the system wont go down to 2d clocks and just sits stil at 782mhz and 51c. Reinstall driver and it goes down to normal.. Hopefully will a driver update fix this..
