(HELP) Phenom II 970 BE voltage questions - Page 2

well after turning off the APS function and lowering my 4.2Ghz goal to 4 i seem to have found a stable overclock. lowered the voltage with stability too. also, i read the post about 4+1 motherboards and well im happy im aware if the posiblities now. so i guess its good i keep a fan blowing directly on the mosfet heatsink and pulling cold air from outside the case (not saying thats going to protect it forever) and what else is cool is the company accidently sent me a second mobo for free.

You have a bad motherboard, as previously pointed out. You might want to upgrade to something a little more... ASUS... before you go off OCing.

EDIT:

Temperature IS NOT the problem. I've seen water-cooled mobos and graphics cards have over-current related VRM failure. Many members here have had water-cooled GTX 570s blow up due to similar VRM failure. Having a fan blow on the MOSFET heatsink will do nothing.

OP you may want to have a look at the orange-bolded link in my sig concerning VRMs...
I don't consider any overclocking fine on that board at all. MSI AMD board (realesed in 2010) VRMs are so bad that they can fail despite mosfet heatsinks and even at 1.4V and less, as with some of the horror story examples in my article.
my mobo was released in 2009. but im sure thats not a factor here anyway.

after all the time thats passed i finally figured out what was causing the blue screens was my hard drive just messing up. (its a bit old and tired) when running windows from a newer drive its solid as a rock. also i havnt had any trouble with vrm failure at least not yet but im sure to keep my eye on it every day and have made sure to turn the computer off any time ill be away from it for too long as a percautionary measure just in case.
